Continuing Student Housing Selection Process

Welcome to Housing Selection 2026–2027 for current Biola Students!

Begin the Process

  1. Get Informed!

    • Attend the apartment and/or residence hall information session to learn about the housing application process.
  2. Start working on your Housing Application & Roommate Matching today.

    • Submit your Continuing Student Housing Application by the designated deadline. Your selection time will be sent to you before your selection day.
    • Find the Housing Application on the StarRez Portal.
      • If you are not currently in undergraduate housing, you will be paying the $250 Housing Deposit within the application through different payment methods provided by Stripe. Otherwise, if you are a current Biola Housing resident, you should be able to fill out the application as soon as you log-in and provide your information.
      • You will also be able to roommate match within the application.
    • Please be sure to complete the application in its entirety!
  3. Attend an Info Session.

    • Please refer to our emails and the @biola_hrl Instagram for the schedule of the info sessions.
    • All current undergraduate residents are required to attend one info session.
      • For inquiries, please reach out to your building's Resident Director/Graduate Assistant.
  4. Complete your Roommate Matching

    • For students who are applying to be in a double occupancy room or a two-person apartment:
      • One person has to send a roommate invite to the other roommate.
      • The other roommate must go back to the Housing Application and visit the "Roommate Selection" page to accept the invite.
    • For students who are applying to be in a triple-occupancy room OR a three-person or four-person apartment:
      • One person has to send an invite to the other two/three, and the rest must accept the invite (example: Annie invites Priscilla and Symphony to fill their room of three. Symphony accepts Annie’s invite. Priscilla accepts Annie’s invite).
      • Once all of the members have accepted the group leader’s invite, your group is completely matched!

Selection Process Details

Apartment Selection

The apartment selection process is competitive and based on eligibility, group seniority, and credit averages.

1. Confirm Eligibility

  • Students must complete the housing application, be apartment eligible, have at least 60 units or be 21 by fall, and form a complete roommate group (2, 3, or 4 people depending on unit type).

2. Apartment Raffle (Phase One)

  • Eligible groups enter a credit-based raffle to determine selection priority. Groups with higher average credits rank higher. Not all participants will receive an apartment slot due to limited availability.

3. Selection Notifications:

  • March 10: Groups learn if they got a slot.
  • March 11: Those with slots get selection times.
  • March 12: Apartment Selection takes place.

4. Prepare for Selection Day:

  • Groups should rank apartment preferences, assign a Team Captain (one with the earliest selection date), and create backup plans in case their first choices fill up.

5. Selection Day:

  • The Team Captain selects an available apartment through the StarRez Portal at their assigned time. Once chosen, the assignment is final.

If No Apartment Slot:
Groups are automatically moved to Residence Hall Selection (starting March 25) but can adjust group sizes or opt out via email. Available halls: Hope, Horton, Stewart, and Blackstone.

Optional Waitlist:

Students can join a waitlist for apartments that open later, though placement isn’t guaranteed.

Key Reminder:

Space is limited, and flexibility improves your chances of getting suitable housing.

How priority/seniority is determined: Priority is given to current Biola Housing residents who will be seniors in the coming school year (88+ credits in progress). The more upcoming seniors who are also living in Biola Housing that you have in your roommate group, the higher your priority will be.

Residence Hall Selection

  • Step 1: Go to the StarRez Portal.
  • Step 2: Select the term for which you are applying to revisit your application.

  •

  • Step 3: Go to Room Selection Information.

  •

  • Step 4: Select your desired building.
    • You will only be seeing options that are available for your roommate group (whether you're a 2-person or 3-person roommate group) and classification (in this case, Continuing Student buildings).
    • If you selected a building in the Initial Selection page, and you decide not to select a room in that building, do not worry! You can use the filters to view other options based on location or building.
  •

  • Step 5: Select your desired room (you can use the filters on the left column) and click "Add to Cart" then "Save & Continue".
    • In this example, you can see that each room has a code that looks like this: BLCK-03-301. This simply means that the "item" is in Blackstone, on the 3rd floor, and in room 301.
    • You only have 7 minutes after adding your room to your cart to make changes and save your selection.
  •

  • Step 6: Assign a bed space for you and your roommate/s.
    • The additional number at the end of the room code simply refers to the bed space. HORS-05-541-1 means Bed #1, and HORS-05-541-2 means Bed #2. You can just randomly assign these bed spaces to you and your roommate/s.
  •

  • Step 7: Confirm your room selection.

Then you and your roommate/s are all set! Be on the lookout for emails about checking in for the Fall 2025–Spring 2026 academic year!

Late Applicant Selection

  • When: Ongoing after the conclusion of normal residence hall selection.
  • Who participates: Any applicant who has not yet selected a bed and is a residency required student who has not been approved to commute!
  • How priority is established: This is a first-come-first-serve selection process.
  • Details:
    • All students will be required to have matched with a roommate in order to select their housing for next year. If you are having trouble finding a roommate, you have until May 15th before the Housing office matches you with another student based on your profile and assigns you to a room.

Intent to Commute

If you would like to commute, you will need to complete the following steps:

  • Please review the Residency Requirement Policy located in the Student Housing Handbook.
  • If you are a student over the age of 21 and want to commute to Biola from a parent’s/guardian’s home OR live in non-Biola Housing, please complete the Intent to Commute Form found on the StarRez Portal.
  • If you are under 21 years old and would like to commute from your parents’/guardians’ home, please complete the Intent to Commute Form found on the StarRez Portal.
  • If you are under 21 years old and would like to commute from a location where your parent(s)/guardian(s) aren't present, please fill out the Request to Commute Exception Form.
