Minor in Coaching

Overview

The coaching minor facilitates biblically based learning about human movement and performance so that students are prepared to be competent and caring Christian professionals who work in the fields of teaching, coaching, exercise science and allied health care. The coaching minor is offered to those with an interest in coaching as a life profession and to those with an interest in coaching as ministry or missions.

Core Courses

A minor in coaching is offered to those with an interest in coaching as a life profession and to those with an interest in coaching as ministry or missions. Before choosing your courses, a consultation with a department advisor is recommended.

The study of applied Sport Psychology, learning, motivation, social interaction, mental training for performance, applying behavioral skills for physical activity promotion, and specific psychological rehabilitation strategies.

The theory, fundamentals, strategies, and techniques of teaching and coaching basketball. Grade Mode: A.

The theory, fundamentals, strategies, and techniques of teaching and coaching soccer. Grade Mode: A.

The theory, fundamentals, strategies, and techniques of teaching and coaching tennis. Grade Mode: A.

The theory, fundamentals, strategies, and techniques of teaching and coaching volleyball. Grade Mode: A.

Overview of significant factors that influence and determine the learning and control of motor skills. Motor learning issues are examined from a behavioral perspective, and applications are made to teaching, coaching and rehabilitation settings.

The study of people, activities, businesses, and organizations involved in producing, promoting and organizing any sports related business, event, or product. Grade Mode: A.

Professional experiences in kinesiology, health care, exercise, wellness, sport, or educational settings, with supervision. Documentation of hours and activities performed, with related assignments, must be submitted.Grade Mode: C. 

Elective Courses

Study of topics related to kinesiology in areas such as exercise science and allied health care. Notes: May be taken more than once with a different topic.

Seminar related to specific topics in kinesiology in areas such as exercise science and allied health care. Notes: May be taken multiple times for credit with different content.

Independent work, research, readings and/or professional experiences in the field. Notes: May be taken for a total of 6 credits.
