Reporting Safety Concerns, Hate Crimes, & Hate Incidents

Safety concerns, hate crimes, and hate incidents should immediately be reported to Campus Safety at (562) 777-4000 available 24hrs a day.

Reports may also be made anonymously using the RAVE Guardian app.

Definitions

Hate Incident

A hate incident is an act of hostility or violence against an individual or group based upon their real or perceived race, nationality, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or protected social group. If incidents are a criminal act or attempted criminal act, including but not limited to harassment, assault, and property damage, it may be considered a hate crime.

Bias Incident

A bias incident includes conduct or behavior (verbal, nonverbal, or written) that is threatening, harassing, intimidating, discriminatory, or hostile and is based on a person’s identity group affiliation, including, but not limited to race, age, disability, status, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or religion. A bias incident can occur whether the behavior is intentional or unintentional and may or may not be an illegal act.

Reporting Crimes on Campus

Crimes on campus should be reported to Campus Safety by calling (562) 903-6000 24hrs a day. Emergencies and crimes that are in progress or have just occurred should be reported by calling the 24hr Campus Safety emergency line at (562) 777-4000.
