Biola in South Africa, hosted by Veritas Christian Study Abroad, provides students the opportunity to study and grow spiritually among other international students at the #1 ranked university in Africa, the University of Cape Town.

      Program Overview

Biola in South Africa is a program that aims to give students an opportunity to explore one of the country's oldest and most beautiful cities. Throughout this exploration, students will be able to see God's handiwork in the backdrop of flat-topped Table Mountain juxtaposed by the sweep of the Atlantic Ocean in the foreground, or in the cable-car ride up Table Mountain to enjoy the breathtaking view of the city and peninsula.

Biola in South Africa additionally has students taking courses at the University of Cape Town, which is known as the "Harvard of Africa." The University of Cape Town is South Africa's oldest university and one of the continent's leading teaching and research institutions. While students gain knowledge from the university’s excellent academics, they also have the opportunity to learn in a secular educational world, allowing them to discover new and expanding ways to integrate faith and learning while developing cross-cultural friendships. Additionally, this cross-cultural program enables students to communicate and understand the challenges of a developing nation and teaches them to respond with an informed, Christ-centered worldview. Participating students are required to register for the 1 credit Ministry Practicum course through this Veritas Program. The Ministry Practicum course will transfer back to Biola as 1 general elective credit.

Along with receiving credits transferable to Biola — students will live, learn and experience the beautiful city of Cape Town together. Students will be able to take a ferry to the historic Robben Island, visit the Cape of Good Hope, and go sea kayaking or whale watching in their free time. Students who apply to attend the Biola in South Africa complete a Biola application for review by Study Abroad. In addition to the Biola Study Abroad application, students must also complete an application with the program provider, Veritas. Students must be accepted by Biola Study Abroad and the program provider to participate in the program.
