If you desire to pursue a career in teaching elementary, junior high or high school music, the music teacher preparation program is designed for you. The Conservatory of the Performing Arts music teacher preparation program prepares you for a successful and fulfilling role in guiding the next generation of musicians. As a music teacher preparation student at Biola, you will experience:

  • Private lessons from accomplished faculty of various music disciplines
  • Performances at formal and informal recitals
  • Participation in large and small ensembles
  • Methods courses in woodwinds, brass, percussion and string instruments
  • Specialized courses in music education such as instrumental or choral literature and advanced conducting
  • Hands on experience through school observations and student teaching, student observation, teacher assistant positions and ensemble student conductor positions
  • Opportunities for teaching assistant and student conductor positions
  • A senior recital in performance and conducting
