If you desire to pursue a career in teaching elementary, junior high or high school music, the music education program is designed for you. The Conservatory of Music’s music education program prepares you for a successful and fulfilling role in guiding the next generation of musicians. As a music education student at Biola, you will experience:
- Private lessons from accomplished faculty of various music disciplines
- Performances at formal and informal recitals
- Participation in large and small ensembles
- Methods courses in woodwinds, brass, percussion and string instruments
- Specialized courses in music education such as instrumental or choral literature and advanced conducting
- Hands on experience through school observations and student teaching, student observation, teacher assistant positions and ensemble student conductor positions
- Opportunities for teaching assistant and student conductor positions
- A senior recital in performance and conducting
