New Heart, Mind & Soul Track for D.Min. Students to Launch in Spring 2017

In Spring 2017, Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology will offer a new track within the Doctor of Ministry program entitled, “Heart, Mind & Soul.” The specialty track gives an opportunity to individuals who work in full-time ministry positions to refine their abilities to better serve their congregation.

Professor of preaching, Don Sunukijan, professor of philosophy, Greg Ganssle, and professor of philosophy and theology, Steve Porter, will each oversee one part of the three-year track which will focus on the heart, mind and soul for effective ministry. Students will spend a year learning how to effectively communicate scripture in a biblical and relevant way, a year learning how to respond effectively to critical faith-based questions, and a year discovering how to bring about real transformation in the lives of their congregation.

“Students will learn to craft and develop sermons that will speak to the heart. They will be challenged to think deeply about culture and how to engage it. They will be taught the basics of spiritual formation and how to care for the soul,” said Bruce Seymour, director of Talbot’s D.Min. program. “We think students who take this track will be equipped, challenged and shaped into better ministers and disciples of Jesus Christ.”
