Torrey and the Bible

Christ-Centered Formation
Torrey Honors College offers a robust biblical and theological education that is unparalleled in classical Christian higher education. Since its founding, Torrey Honors College has faithfully stewarded Biola's historical commitment to 30 credits of Bible and theology. Torrey Honors students read and discuss the majority of the Old Testament and the entirety of the New Testament, in addition to works by major theologians in Church history like Athanasius, Augustine, Anselm, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin and C.S. Lewis. We interweave biblical and theological texts throughout our great books curriculum, centering God’s Word in the great conversation. Together, we pursue the Good, the True and the Beautiful, which are ultimately found in Jesus Christ.

Earn Your Minor in Biblical Literature and Classical Theology
Through their coursework, all Torrey Honors students may earn a minor in Biblical Literature and Classical Theology. You will explore the riches of God’s Word through reading and discussing books of the Bible with your cohort, grapple with some of the greatest theological minds in Church history, discover the unity of God’s truth across academic disciplines and seek to be transformed into the image of Christ.

Torrey Total Bible
Torrey Total Bible is an opportunity for students to read the entire Bible, cover to cover. In this one-unit elective course, students read and discuss the few remaining Old Testament books that are not covered in the standard Torrey Honors curriculum. Torrey Total Bible sessions are led by Torrey Honors faculty and allow students to build community with students outside of their cohort and year.

Torrey Lectures
Torrey Honors curates a series of lectures aimed at grounding students in how to read, interpret and study the Bible and in understanding the major doctrines of Christianity from an evangelical perspective. Besides the outstanding Torrey Honors faculty, you will have the opportunity to learn from visiting distinguished Christian scholars, who deliver lectures and engage in small group discussions with Torrey Honors students.
Torrey Honors students also participate in Biola University's annual campus-wide Torrey Memorial Bible Conference and Cook Missions Conference.
