We often read the story of the woman who was sick for 12 years as a story about her transformative healing encounter with Jesus. But what might we learn by lingering in the details of those 12 years? How does experiencing—and observing—suffering drive us to Jesus?

Speakers

Bethany Williamson

Dr. Williamson is an Associate Professor in the English Department. Her area of teaching and research specialty is 17th & 18th-century British literature (think: Paradise Lost, Robinson Crusoe, and Pride & Prejudice, though she’s also published an article about a woman sci-fi writer from the 1660s!). She also teaches first-year writing as well as Core literature courses that are focused on diverse voices from around the world—this semester, she’s teaching Contemporary Middle Eastern Literature. She’s a native of New Jersey, so her favorite part about California is living near the ocean—when she’s not reading, she likes to take a sailboat out in Long Beach and chase the dolphins.
