Join 20 young singers from the Biola Conservatory as they present a FREE concert featuring songs by Sergei Rachmaninoff in Lansing Auditorium, Crowell Hall on Sunday evening, November 6th, at 7:00.

Rachmaninoff, regarded as one of the 20th century’s major composers, wrote some of the most passionate and beautifully Romantic Art songs in the repertoire.

Metropolitan Opera baritone Richard Zeller, Biola’s Director of Opera, will sing alongside his students as they perform a recital program featuring 20 songs composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff. These talented young singers range in age from Freshman to Senior and are joined by Professor Zeller, baritone and Biola alumni Joel Balzun, baritone, and accompanists, Alice Song, Hanbo Ma, and Dr. Beth Nam.

Though Rachmaninoff is known for his piano concertos and symphonies, some of his finest music is found in his songs, all of which were composed in Russia before he left at the time of the Revolution. He eventually made the United States his home and passed away in Beverly Hills, CA in 1943. As a virtuoso pianist, he composed astounding accompaniment to the voice and the combination of piano and voice results in some of the most romantic art song ever written. Join the Zeller Voice studio in a free concert as they explore together some of world’s most beautiful Russian vocal music. All songs will be sung in Russian with English translations provided. This will be a night of Beauty, Joy and Passion not to be missed!
