Please join us in honoring this year’s recipient of the Biola University Charles W. Colson Conviction and Courage Award, Reverend Andy Bales.

Biola will present this award to Reverend Andy Bales during Biola’s Student Missionary Union’s Missions Conference on March 21. We invite you to attend the award presentation at 9:30 a.m. in Chase Gymnasium.

This annual award is given to an individual who exemplifies a commitment to the unshakeable truths of a biblical worldview and a willingness to act on biblical convictions, however risky or challenging. Previous recipients of the Colson Award include Charles W. Colson (posthumously), Baroness Caroline Cox, Paul Marshall, Joni Eareckson Tada, Mama Maggie Gobran, Brother Andrew van der Bijl, Luis Palau and Dr. Robert P. George.

Reverend Andy Bales recently retired from his nearly twenty-year service as President and CEO of Union Rescue Mission (URM) in Los Angeles. Since its establishment in 1891, URM has been the vital center of hope for men, women, and children experiencing homelessness on the streets of Skid Row.

Andy Bales is known by local leaders for both his sincere compassion and his unwavering conviction. His steadfast devotion to the centrality of Christianity in this large secularized field of public service earned the great respect of local leaders - those who disagreed with him - for his deep commitment to the homeless community and his courage to hold to his convictions despite opposition. Andy's compassion for people in dire straits, including those with incarcerated family members, also strongly resonated with Chuck Colson's visionary work through Prison Fellowship.

The profound impact of Andy's work has been recognized locally and nationally and we are honored to be presenting him with this award.
