The Story of Bitcoin - Lecture

Learn about Bitcoin and the next "halving" happening this week

Cost and Admission

This event is free to attend.

Come learn about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. If you've heard about Bitcoin, but don't know what it is or how it works, this lecture is for you.

Matthew Weathers (Office of Digital Learning, Math & Computer Science Adjunct) will give a lecture describing the history of Bitcoin and some basics about how cryptocurrency and blockchains work. What is the cultural significance of Bitcoin? Does it have any value? How does it work?

Why Now? Every four years, the Bitcoin "mining reward" is cut in half, in an event called the "Bitcoin halving." That's happening again this week – for only the fourth time in history. What will happen on that day? And why is it part of the design of Bitcoin?

Business 220, April 18, 2024, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Free. No registration required.
