The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department (CSD) at Biola University is proud to present its first annual continuing education course, “Advancing Professional Leadership and Client Care.” This course is designed to equip practicing SLPs to become better supervisors for their colleagues and better counselors for the clients. Four hours of continuing education will be provided.
Learning Outcomes
Part I: Empowering New Professionals: Supervision Best Practices
Participants will be able to:
- Outline the steps of a developmental supervision model.
- Explain supervisory behaviors to use for supervisees at various levels of supervision development.
- Know the purposes and procedures for pre-supervisory conferences and supervisory conferences.
Part II: A Tale of Two Minds: Emotional and Informational Counseling
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the concepts of change, loss, and grief.
- Compare and contrast emotional counseling with information counseling.
- Explain when emotional counseling versus informational counseling is needed.
