Guest Artist: Rique Pantoja Rio Jazz Quintet

The Conservatory is excited to welcome RIQUE PANTOJA RIO JAZZ QUINTET for a night of Brazilian jazz music!

Rique Pantoja is a Rio de Janeiro-born, Los Angeles-based jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and producer. A Berklee alum who early in his career worked with legend Chet Baker, he co-founded the acclaimed Brazilian jazz group Cama de Gato. In addition to serving as music director for Djavan, Rique has collaborated with Brazilian icons Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, and Ivan Lins, as well as international stars like Gloria Estefan, Carlos Santana, Alejandro Sanz, and Frank Gambale. His screen work spans film and TV tracks—including Disney’s Jungle 2 Jungle and the animated feature Rio — alongside extensive university teaching across Southern California.
Rique has taught or held workshops at Southern California’s Biola University, Cal Baptist University, Maranatha Worship Training, and Pepperdine University.

Brandon Fields - Born in Indiana and raised in southern California, Brandon is a multi-woodwind instrumentalist, producer/composer/arranger, with nine solo records and hundreds of recording, TV, and film credits as a sideman. He has toured with George Benson, The Rippingtons, Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, the Dave Weckl Band, Barry Manilow, and Barbra Streisand. His recordings include Grammy-winning performances with Alejandro Sanz, Ray Charles, and Randy Waldman.
Brandon Fields endorses and is a clinician for the Conn Selmer Company saxophones and D'Addario reeds.

Lucio Vieira is a drummer and educator from Manaus, Brazil. Raised in a musical household, he was exposed to a wide range of genres from an early age, shaping his eclectic style.
In 2012, he won a Latin Grammy for his drumming on Iluminado by the legendary Dominguinhos. Lucio has toured and recorded with some of the most renowned artists in the world, including Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia, Elba Ramalho, Roberto Menescal, João Donato, Sérgio Mendes, Herb Alpert, Larry Coryell, Allen Hinds, Frank Gambale, and Rique Pantoja.

JP Mourão is a Los Angeles-based guitarist, producer, arranger, and educator originally from São Paulo, Brazil. He has collaborated with major artists including Selena Gomez, Snoop Dogg, Macy Gray, and Carlos Vives, as well as global brands like Disney, Coca-Cola, FIFA, and the NBA. A contributor to Grammy-winning and nominated projects, JP performs live with his band Farofa and jazz artist Keiko Matsui. He is an Assistant Professor of Commercial Music at California State University, Los Angeles.

Jonathan Pintoff is a versatile bassist on both upright and electric bass, with over 25 years spanning jazz, Latin, R&B, and contemporary music. Born and raised in New York City's multicultural music scene, he's known for his deep groove and stylistic range, performing across the U.S. and internationally in Brazil, Puerto Rico, Japan, and Singapore. He has shared the stage with artists including Celia Cruz, Jeff Lorber, and Hilton Ruiz, and recorded with Janis Siegel and Rique Pantoja.
