The Need

The church exists to act as ambassadors for Christ — sharing the good news of salvation by God’s grace through faith and calling people into a life-transforming relationship with him. In a rapidly changing cultural context, there’s a great need for clear, winsome and bold evangelism training.

For Biola University and Talbot School of Theology, this is an objective we are pursuing with our students. Equipping our students to offer a clear and winsome witness to the gospel is a key aspect of fulfilling our mission — both at the undergraduate level and in our seminary programs, where we desire to train pastors and leaders who will prioritize and model evangelism in their congregations. Additionally, we desire to serve as a resource and training center for congregations in California, Arizona and beyond, equipping thousands of church leaders and members to share the gospel effectively.

Strategic Objectives

The Center for Evangelism and Missions, housed within Talbot School of Theology, will have one primary goal and several focused objectives. The primary goal is to strengthen the church in its effective witness to the gospel. To achieve this goal, we have identified several objectives that we will focus on, including, but not limited to:

Undergraduate Curriculum Expansion

Integrate enhanced evangelism training into the core biblical and theological studies minor required for all Biola students.

Advanced Ministry Training

Elevate practical evangelism and church- planting preparation across all graduate ministry degrees at Talbot School of Theology.

Global Digital Access

Develop and deploy a world-class online evangelism course accessible to believers and church leaders worldwide.

Regional Church Mobilization

Provide hands-on workshops, resourcing and evangelism training to hundreds of local congregations in Southern California.

Ed Stetzer

The Talbot School of Theology is one of the leading theological schools — undergrad and seminary — in the world. A robust Center for Evangelism and Mission will bring a greater focus of training to our students, but also help lead evangelicals to a greater focus on evangelism and missions in these tumultuous times. With this new focus, Talbot can put a stake in the ground for evangelism and lead the way into greater gospel engagement.
