LA MIRADA, CALIF. — After serving as Interim Chief of Campus Safety for five months following the unexpected passing of Chief John Ojeisekhoba in August 2025, Randy Chung has accepted the position of Chief of Campus Safety at Biola University. Effective January 23, 2026, Chung will step into the role with nearly 18 years of experience on Biola’s Campus Safety team.
“Chief Randy Chung is deeply aligned with Biola’s biblical mission and values, and he understands that a safe campus is foundational to the hospitable, God-centered environment we seek to provide,” said Biola president Barry H. Corey. “His collaborative approach and credibility across departments have built trust and a shared sense of responsibility to protect and serve this community well.”
After earning a degree in criminal justice from Cal State University, Fullerton, Chung became a Campus Safety officer at Biola in 2008. From there, he climbed the ranks to become a sergeant, lieutenant, captain, assistant chief, interim chief and now chief of Campus Safety. Chung has also served part-time with the Garden Grove Police Department as a reserve police officer since 2016.
“I was humbled when President Corey offered me the role of Chief of Campus Safety after a thorough discernment process. After remaining prayerful every step of the way, the decision to accept was an easy one to make,” said Chung. “Chief Ojeisekhoba built something very special, and I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead the Campus Safety team into the next chapter here at Biola University.”
A familiar presence already at Biola, Chung is motivated by new challenges and investing in the professional development of peers and subordinates. His commitment to the safety of Biola’s campus and its students is unwavering.
“Many of you already know Chief Chung, who has served faithfully and steadily in the interim role following John Ojeisekhoba’s passing. Throughout this time, Randy has demonstrated calm leadership, sound judgment and a deep commitment to the well-being of our students, employees and visitors,” said Corey. “Feedback from across the university consistently affirmed his readiness for this role, noting his humility, relational strength and ability to lead with both confidence and care, especially in complex or high-pressure moments.”
Campus Safety's primary responsibility is to provide for the safety and protection of Biola’s students, staff and visitors. With extensive measures in place, Biola’s Campus Safety team is highly trained to provide Biola students with tactical care and assurance of security.
