The Biola University community is deeply grieved to share that Amber Delgado, a healthcare management student in the School of Science, Technology and Health, was tragically killed in a car crash in Long Beach on February 21 at age 22. She began her studies at Biola in Fall 2021.

“We mourn this loss together as a community,” shared President Barry H. Corey in a letter to the Biola community. “Each student at Biola matters. Each story matters. Amber’s presence among us — in classrooms, in conversations, in the daily rhythms of campus life — was significant. She was a valued and important part of our university family.”

Delgado was a FirstGen commuter student pursuing a degree in healthcare management with a minor in psychology. She demonstrated compassion and care for others, which was recently recognized by PIH Health with an award for excellence in patient care. As a first-generation college student, she carried not only her own aspirations but also the hopes and dreams of her family — a journey marked by courage, perseverance and quiet strength.

“Amber lit up every room she walked into. She had so much love and compassion for everyone (family, friends, strangers). She cherished spending time with family — celebrating holidays, gathering for special events, telling jokes, and filling every room with laughter. She was incredibly hardworking and determined, always pursuing her dreams with courage and faith. Through every challenge, she never gave up. Amber and her brother shared a strong sibling bond, rooted in protection, loyalty, and unconditional love. Through every season of life, they stood side by side. Their joyful heart and caring nature touched so many lives,” shared a family member.

Two of Delgado’s cousins are part of the Biola community; one serves on Biola’s Campus Safety team, and the other is a current student. The community is encouraged to pray for Delgado’s loved ones during this time of sorrow, asking for peace that surpasses understanding and for comfort that only the Lord can provide. Members of Biola’s Student Development team are available to speak with students and can be reached at 562-777-4009. Counseling Services are also available to support students walking through grief.

There was a time of prayer on February 24 at AfterDark chapel in Ethel Lee Auditorium. As more information becomes available in the coming days, the university will communicate any plans to gather as a community to pray and remember Delgado. A GoFundMe page has been created to support the Delgado family as they grieve the loss of their daughter and son, who were both victims of the car crash.
