LA MIRADA, CALIF. — Biola University President Barry H. Corey’s second book, Make the Most of It, presents a practical guide for graduating high school seniors on how to make their college experience count — providing wisdom that rings true but is rarely ever passed on. Set to release on Mar. 3, 2020 by Tyndale House Publishers, Make the Most of It offers advice for students on how to not only survive college, but how to flourish.

“These pages are the accumulation of wisdom from nearly four decades in higher education, from my life as a college student then to my life as a university leader today, to all the years in between,” writes Corey. “I want you to believe your undergraduate journey can be even more life-forming than you ever imagined.”

Recognizing that the most consequential years of one’s life are often during their college experience, Corey touches on a wide variety of topics, from college romances to making friends, from getting sleep to embracing boredom, from choosing a major to one’s social life, and more. The goal of Make the Most of It is not simply to act as a survival guide for graduating seniors, but to provide them with the habits and knowledge to thrive and love their college years.

For those whose college days are in the past, Make the Most of It serves as a tool to help pass along advice to their family members and friends entering college when at a loss for what advice to give. Corey delivers tips for survival, virtues to embrace, ideas to think about, and habits to cultivate for an enjoyable and flourishing journey through college.

A native of Boston, Mass., Corey has been president of Biola University since 2007. He previously served as vice president for education at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Corey received a bachelor’s degree in English and biblical studies from Evangel University and a master’s degree in American studies and a Ph.D. in education from Boston College. As a Fulbright scholar, he lived in Bangladesh, where he researched educational programs for children of the landless poor. He and his wife, Paula, live in Southern California and have three adult children.

Make the Most of It will be available for purchase in bookstores and on Amazon beginning Mar. 3, 2020.

Corey is available for interviews to discuss how students can not only survive college but thrive, how parents can best prepare their children for college — especially Christians who will be

attending public colleges and universities, and how students can best embrace the totality of the college experience.
