LA MIRADA, CALIF. — On Oct. 20, Biola University’s Theatre 21 will debut their new production, The Spitfire Grill. Six showings will be held from Oct. 20-22 and Oct. 27-29. The show is directed and choreographed by Biola professor of theatre Kate Brandon.

The Spitfire Grill is a musical about a young woman who comes to Wisconsin, hoping to leave her past behind. Inspired by a page from an old travel book, she travels to the small town of Gilead looking for a fresh start. The local sheriff finds her a job at The Spitfire Grill, the only eatery in the dying town. The town is initially more than a bit suspicious of the young woman — she is both an outsider and spent time in prison. The Spitfire Grill is for sale, but with no interested buyers, the owner decides to raffle it off. Entry fees are $100, and the best essay on why participants want the grill wins. Moments later, mail starts arriving by the wheelbarrow and things heat up at the eatery. This musical is an inspiring celebration of fresh starts and the impact one person can have in the lives of others who have lost hope.

The cast includes Biola sophomores Kaitlyn Bartlett, Karina Rios, Amanda Petrowski, Caleb Bailey, Seth McBride, Madison Britton, Marc DeJager, and seniors Jennifer Hahn, Joseph Tereba, Bree Hobbs.

The Spitfire Grill will be hosted in Theatre 21 on Biola University’s campus. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday showings and at 3 p.m. on Sundays.
