LA MIRADA, Calif. --- With five Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District selections among its at-large sports, Biola's student-athletes continue to prove their ability on and off the field.

Matthew Flodin, Scott West, Isaiah Pekary, Christine Tixier and Abby Blake all earned the recognition, the most selections from any one school in the College Division District Four. The academic dominance continued amongst GSAC schools where Biola's five selections outnumbered the four combined honors from the rest of the GSAC.

Somehow in between qualifying for the NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships in six events, Abby Blake maintained a 3.84 GPA, which is the fourth highest among the district's female selections. The sophomore is majoring in humanities with the goal of entering into editing or publishing after graduation.

After one of the most dominant seasons in NAIA history, Christine Tixier continued her commitment to academic excellence as well, earning Academic All-District recognition for the second year in a row. The NAIA Women's Swimmer of the Year won three NAIA Individual National Titles (100-, 200-butterfly, 200-IM), set school records in all eight events she swam at the NAIA Swim & Dive Championships,and lowered her own NAIA record in the 100-butterfly (:54.35). Tixier earned a 3.81 GPA while majoring in human biology.

Matthew Flodin was recognized for the first time in his Biola career. The sophomore earned a 3.89 GPA, which is tied for fourth highest in the district. Flodin is majoring in communication studies. He swam three individual events at the national meet (50-, 100- and 200-freestyle) and was a part of the 800-freestyle team that finished fourth (7:08.71).

Isaiah Pekary, a four-year men's tennis staple, earned his first Academic All-District nod.  The senior played No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, forming a resilient doubles duo with Tayven Townsend. Pekary achieved a 3.73 GPA, and the East Palo Alto native is majoring in communication studies.

After being one of only 19 male swimmers named an NAIA scholar-athlete, Scott West is selected for his first Academic All-District team. The 200- and 500-freestyle national qualifier achieved a 3.70 GPA and is majoring in biological science. West is finishing up his junior year and hopes to become a zoologist after his time at Biola.

The Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District teams are voted on by the Sports Information Directors in each district. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her current institution.

The sports eligible for the at-large bids are Women's Bowling, Women's Crew, Men's and Women's Fencing, Women's Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Men's and Women's Rifle, Men's and Women's Skiing, Men's and Women's Swimming, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Water Polo and Men's Wrestling.
