Biola UniversityBoone Farrington stood out on the diamond all season long as Biola’s most polished offensive weapon, and now he becomes Biola’s lone Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American for the 2014 baseball season.
Farrington earns his first career Academica All-America nod following the final season of his Biola career. He earns the fourth total Academic All-America nod for Biola Baseball, all four coming within the last three seasons.
Farrington earned the honor while serving as the Eagles’ everyday third baseman/designated hitter and compiling a slash line of .335/.424/.478 with three homeruns and 24 RBI.
He studied sociology and earned a 3.74 cumulative grade point average to earn a spot on the Capital One/CoSIDA College Division Second Team. He is one of eight infielders in the nation from NAIA schools and junior colleges to be honored with this distinction.
Farrington earned those marks while serving as an anchor for Head Coach Jay Sullenger’s squad. He appeared in 49 of the team’s 54 games, missing some time due to injury. He ended the season as the only player on the roster with a batting average above .300 (.335). He also led the team in triples and found himself as one of just three players with double-digit doubles.
In order to earn Academic All-American status, players must be at least a sophomore and serve as a prominent member of the team as a starter or key reserve, and they must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
Farrington becomes Biola’s first infielder to earn Captital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American recognition. The previous honorees, Nick Turner and Benji Sutherland, were a pitcher and outfielder.
