Biola University annually grants one student a President’s Scholarship that covers tuition expenses for a full year. During a campus chapel service on May 14, Biola University president Barry H. Corey announced that junior Randa Hinton had been chosen to receive this impressive recognition awarding her 100 percent of the cost of tuition for the upcoming 2013-2014 academic year.

Hinton was surprised when Corey invited her family to join her on stage. The award was a surprise as was the fact that Biola had brought her parents to La Mirada to celebrate this memorable moment with her.
"I feel honored to have been selected to receive this award," Hinton reflected, "and extremely thankful for the opportunity to represent Biola in this way."
Hinton not only met but exceeded the requirements to receive the scholarship with her incredible contributions to Biola publications, clubs and services, and her notable reputation for consistently displaying godly character. The minimum qualifications for consideration to receive this award include a cummulative GPA of over 3.6, two years of completed academic studies at Biola, dedication to involvement with campus activities and Christian testimony clearly demonstrated in the way the potential recipient lives their life.

Hinton has served as the editor of the school yearbook, The Biolan, for the past two years. She proved her dedication to professional ethics during her time as the secretary for Biola’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. She also invested her time and effort as a member, event assistant, speaker and student voice within Biola’s Multi-Ethnic Programs and Development department.

In addition to working two part-time jobs, Hinton has maintained a 3.7 GPA in the Torrey Honors Institute liberal arts general education program at Biola. She intends to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations in May of 2013.
