Alumni and friends enjoyed an evening of theater right out of the Old Testament on Friday evening, January 22, as they were treated to Biola Youth Theatre’s (BYT) performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  Andrew Lloyd Webber’s brilliant retelling of the biblical story of Joseph features a wide variety of musical genres, and there was something for every possible musical taste—from a tear-jerking country-western ballad to a sparkling calypso number to a 50s-style portrayal of pharaoh worthy of Elvis himself.

A pre-show dinner in Metzger Hall’s Board Dining Room featured an interview with Lori (Sanger ’79) Shanebeck, executive producer and director of BYT for the past 10 years, and with one of cast members. Their personal remarks provided an even greater appreciation for the show that followed.

Biola Youth Theatre continues to be a strong voice and recruitment tool for Biola, as the program aims to provide a quality program that incorporates theatre training with spiritual principles and truths—all in an environment of caring and nurturing the children and youth who are involved.

Alumni will have another opportunity to enjoy BYT later in the year, as plans are underway for an event featuring the June production of Cats. If you’d like to be on the list to receive information about that upcoming production, please phone the alumni office at 562-903-4728.
