Teaching Tools

  • Canvas: Canvas is a Learning Management System (LMS) we use at Biola to provide an online space for class activities such as exchanging documents, online discussions and managing course grades. Faculty can log in at canvas.biola.edu. The Faculty Canvas Instructions Guide provides instructions on utilizing the LMS. Canvas also provides several resources such as a Canvas Instructor Guide, Canvas Video Guides and a Canvas Basics Guide.
  • Faculty Tools in My Account: Faculty Tools in My Account provides a platform with quick links to course logistic tools such as: Active Classes, Advisee Listing, Class Roster, Faculty Detailed Scheduled, Final Grades and more.
  • Virtual and Computer Labs: IT provides a List of Labs and Classrooms with Computers. Azure Lab Services is a virtual lab solution integrated with Canvas LMS that allows students and faculty to use lab software required for specific courses. Faculty Services

Library

  • The library is a valuable resource for Biola faculty. Below are a few highlighted resources and services. For a comprehensive list, see Services for Faculty.
    • Articles, eBooks and Subscriptions: The library has access to millions of journal articles, 500k+ ebooks, Open Educational Resources and subscriptions such as the Teaching Professor and Chronicle of Higher Education.
    • Institutional Repository: Digital Commons @ Biola expands the worldwide impact of faculty research by optimizing search engine discovery, providing usage statistics, and enabling easy, legal downloads of copyrighted materials. Functioning as an online archive of scholarship and creative works, the Digital Commons organizes content by collections, disciplines and authors. You can publish open textbooks in the Digital Commons, whether you adapt an existing open textbook or develop an entirely new one.
    • Instruction and Literacy: Library faculty partner with instructional faculty to promote information literacy skills and teach techniques that will enable students to develop a systematic method of research that can be applied to any discipline or assignment.     • Course Reserves: Place books and media items on reserve for students to use for a class two hours at a time, or overnight, by submitting a request.

 

Information Technology

  • Biola’s IT department provides immediate assistance, appointments and services. Contact information and appointments can be found on the IT webpage. A full list of services can be found in the IT Service Catalog, which are categorized on the Service Catalog page.

 

Biola Store

  • The Biola Campus Store is the centralized campus store for Biola’s community. The store houses Mail Services and the Print Shop. Faculty and staff are entitled to receive a 10% discount in the store (excluding textbooks). Be sure to follow your department’s approval process prior to placing any department orders.
    • Print Shop: Biola has a Print Shop on campus that offers a wide range of services. They welcome personal, non-Biola related jobs in addition to your course-related duplicating needs. You can find their list of services, contact information and order forms on the Print Shop webpage.
    • Course Materials: For assistance with coursepacks, selecting textbooks or questions regarding copyright laws, you can contact the Biola Store Manager at melissa.c.castellano@biola.edu.
