Dear Mom and Dad,

I made it! In a few weeks, I’ll be graduating from college and will be receiving my undergraduate degree. Wow. I’m filled with so much gratitude and I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to experience college abroad. I know that it wasn’t easy letting me go to school thousands of miles away—but I promise you, this whole experience has been worth it.

As I wrap up my final semester at Biola, I’ve been reflecting a lot on how college has changed me. I remember coming to Biola with absolutely no idea of what I wanted to do with my life. I went from wanting to become a doctor to eventually realizing my love for writing. This whole journey has not been easy. There were times when I wanted to give up and go back home but I’m so glad I didn’t. Aside from learning so much about my passion for journalism, I learned so much about myself as a person. From the most simple things like doing my own laundry, living in a dorm room on my own, and being able to manage school life and a social life, I’ve learned to become more independent and have grown as a human being. I didn’t ever think that Biola would be the place for me but I’ve continually seen how the Lord has really made it clear that this was where I needed to be.

I know that what lies ahead is still unknown but I also know that God will guide me as I embark on this journey of adulthood. Thank you for being there for me during my times of stress and joy. I would not trade anything for this experience and I am so sad to be leaving Biola very soon. BUT, I am so excited for what’s to come and I thank you for allowing me to be me through it all.

Love you forever,

Fiona
