Scholarships

At Biola, we seek to make our unique, Christ-centered education more affordable for you and your family. That is why we’ve just significantly expanded our 2016–17 scholarships for both freshmen and transfer students. Academic scholarships now range from $10,000 to $14,000 for freshmen and $6,000 to $11,000 for transfer students.


Freshman Academic Scholarship

Eligibility

The student is eligible if he/she is transferring 15 or more credit units, based on a college transcript. If the student is transferring 14 credit units or less, he/she is only eligible for the traditional academic scholarship based on the student's high school transcript.

Deadline

Updated college transcripts are due at the end of the student's spring semester. Transfer students entering Biola for the fall semester must ensure that their most up-to-date transcripts are in the possession of the Biola Admissions Office no later than July 1. Transfer students entering Biola for the spring semester must ensure that their most up-to-date transcripts are in the possession of the Biola Admissions Office no later than January 15.

Alumni Dependent Scholarship

Amount

$1,000 per year.

Eligibility

The student is eligible if he/she is the dependent of someone who has completed 30 units of coursework at Biola University (including Talbot School of Theology, Rosemead School of Psychology or the Cook School of Intercultural Studies) at the time the student enters Biola. Teaching credential students are not eligible.

Application

No separate application required. The eligible student should indicate "alumni" on the parent section of the Biola University Application for Admission.

No deadline. Priority given to early applicants.

Note: The Office of Admissions automatically awards the Alumni Dependent Scholarship at the time the eligible student is admitted to Biola University.


Pastor/Missionary Dependent Scholarship

Amount

$1,000 per year (split between fall and spring semesters).

Eligibility

Admitted students who are dependents of pastors and missionaries may apply and will be awarded as funds are available. Students must file a FAFSA and demonstrate some financial need.

The application for the Pastor/Missionary Dependent scholarship is closed at this time .

Deadline

At this time, the Pastor/Missionary Scholarship has been awarded.

Renewal

Continuing students must reapply each year, and are awarded as funds are available.

Church Matching Scholarship

Amount for 2016 - 2017 School Year

Up to $1,300 per year (split between fall and spring semesters).

Eligibility

The student is eligible if he/she has demonstrated financial need and is at least a half-time student. To qualify, the eligible student must receive financial sponsorship from a church. Biola University will match up to $1,300 of support per year.

Application

Completed FAFSA (Biola listed) and Church Matching Scholarship 2016-17 application.

Church sponsorship check should be written out to Biola University and attached to the Church Matching Scholarship Application.

Deadline

October 1 for full-year or fall-only students; March 2 for spring-only students.

Renewal

Non-renewable. Student must reapply annually based on financial need and additional church sponsorship.

FirstGen Scholars Program Scholarship

Amount

$2,500 per year.

Eligibility

  • Any incoming student who is first generation (i.e., neither parent completed a bachelor’s degree)
  • Must file the FAFSA or the CA Dream Act application and must demonstrate need verified by Biola's Financial Aid Office.
  • Stated commitment to participate in the FirstGen Scholars Program at Biola University.

Departmental Scholarships

Departmental scholarships are available for the following programs: Athletics, Music, Art, Science, Intercultural Studies, Journalism and Communications (Forensics and Theater). For information regarding specific departments, contact the Office of Admissions.

Biola University/Restricted Scholarships

LEAD Scholarship (Leaders Engaging and Advancing Diversity)

Amount

$2,000 - $6,000 per year.

Eligibility

Any student who has developed a personal understanding of his/her own ethnic background and has engaged in activities that promote multi-ethnic awareness, learning, and celebration within the context of the United States. In addition, students applying should have a cumulative high school GPA of a 3.0 or above, and/or cumulative transfer GPA of a 2.5 or higher. Current students are not eligible to apply.

Note: In addition to completing the LEAD Scholarship application, you must also complete your undergraduate application and turn in all required documents (transcripts, test scores, etc.), respective to the date you submitted your Biola application.

TELACU Scholarship

Amount

$2,000 per year plus $1,000 TELACU Scholarship ($3,000 total).

Eligibility

  • First generation college students
  • Be from a low-income family
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Demonstrated need based on FAFSA information

California Applicants: Be a permanent resident of an under-served community within the counties of Los Angeles, Orange or San Bernardino, such as East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, Baldwin Park, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, City of Los Angeles, Montebello, Ontario, Pico Rivera, Pomona, South Gate, Santa Ana, and San Bernardino. Texas Applicants: Be a permanent resident of San Antonio, Austin, Laredo, Edinburg, or Rio Grande City. Illinois Applicants: Be a permanent resident of the Greater Chicagoland Area. New York Applicants: Be a permanent resident of the state of New York.

Biola-funded match to TELACU Scholarship

Note: Biola is currently able to award the matching scholarship for a maximum of ten TELACU students per year. Biola's matching scholarship will be awarded to first ten TELACU scholarship recipients, determined by TELACU. Biola-funded match to a $1,000 TELACU scholarship.


Ahmanson Veterans Scholarship

Amount for 2015 - 2016 School Year

Undergrad: Up to $3,000 per year.

Eligibility

Student Veterans with current Chapter 33 Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits are eligible to apply. The student is eligible if he/she has demonstrated financial need and is at least a half-time student

Application

Applications are available after March 1, 2016 and are available though the Financial Aid Office. Applicants must have completed a FAFSA and provide a current Certificate of Eligibility to be considered.

Funds will be awarded first-come, first-serve throughout summer 2016
