Director of Online & Graduate Student Success
Norlan was born and raised in the city of Los Angeles, Calif. His family originates from Matagalpa, Nicaragua (Central America), where he spent some of his childhood years. He is the “middle child” (third out of four boys) in his family. He met the woman of his dreams, Isabel Hernandez (maiden and married last name, can you believe it?) at church during his high school years. Isabel was a tremendous spiritual influence in his life that led him to live a life for Jesus Christ. They are now happily married, and the family is growing!
Norlan’s love for higher education led him to obtain an associate's degree from Cerritos Community College, then a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies at California State University, Los Angeles and now, in the virtual classrooms of seminary at Fuller Theological Seminary, working towards a Master of Arts in Theology. And in the midst all of this, he spent four years in a Bible institute where his love for theology began.
Norlan’s love for education has gained him valuable experience in the corporate world. His professional background is in corporate training and education. He brings experience and knowledge in adult education, designing and creating learning materials in various formats and engaging in instructor-led-training and remote (online) training.
Norlan’s experience in higher education has been one that others can relate to: being a first-generation college student, not knowing the processes, not understanding the structure and dealing with more questions than answers. It is this experience in higher education that enables Norlan to passionately coach and guide students through the processes he himself has gone through, and continues to go through, and hopes to help students avoid pitfalls and hurdles he had to overcome.
Norlan will manage the team of Success Coaches that will help students from the point of enrollment to graduation in Degree Completion programs and various graduate programs. Norlan will also serve as as a Success Coach.
Interests: art, movies, documentaries, technology and theology.
Fun Fact: Some of the items on his bucket list include sky diving, backpacking through Europe, giving a Ted Talk and writing articles/books.
