TESOL: Professionalism

Cook School of Intercultural Studies

About this Course

This course is designed to help equip future educators in the TESOL world about what it means to be an ethical and professional teacher. You will have opportunities throughout this course to reflect on previously held beliefs and absorb new ones about your personal sense of ethics and values and  how that will shape you within the classroom. This course will also guide you through the process of finding a job or volunteer opportunity wherever that may be and describe the type of training and preparations you need to be successful. Being a good English language teacher is not just a matter of knowing some teaching techniques or something about the English language. It's also about having the disposition of a teacher and approaching the task (whether in a paid or volunteer position) as a professional. This module helps you know what that entails. For those just starting out in TESOL, it provides job search tools. For those ready to go deeper, it suggests ideas for teacher development.
