3. Residence Hall Features
Descriptions of the Halls & Apartments
- Rooms and apartments are furnished with one twin bed, one desk, one dresser, one bookcase and one desk chair for each planned resident. Rooms and apartments also contain built-in closet space or modular wardrobes for each planned resident. All furnishings are to remain in the rooms to which they are assigned.
- Floor plans with desks, shelves, closet, vanity and/or dresser space shown represent rooms with built-in furnishings that cannot be moved.
- Floor plans with no built-ins shown are furnished as above, but furnishings can be rearranged in many different room configurations.
Alpha Chi
- All women’s hall
- Two full-time professional live-in staff plus 12 peer Resident Assistants living on the floors
- Traditional “dorm style” building with community restrooms and laundry rooms on each floor.
- One large kitchen plus two microwave rooms
- Sun deck
- Air conditioned with individual room thermostats
Emerson Hall
- Two floors of men and two floors of women
- One full-time professional live-in staff plus 4 peer Resident Assistants living on the floors
- Traditional “dorm style” building with community restrooms and laundry rooms on each floor
- Newly remodeled lobby and kitchen.
- Close to the center of campus with easy access to the Café, music building, and Fitness Center.
Hart Hall
- Two floors of men and two floors of women
- Traditional “dorm style” building with community restrooms on each floor
- Two laundry rooms downstairs, one for men and one for women
- One full-time professional live-in staff plus 8 peer Resident Assistants living on the floors
- Large courtyard with rose garden
- Large upstairs kitchen and lounge
- Air conditioned
Hope Hall
- Opened Fall 2003
- Men on 3 floors; women on 5 floors
- Traditional “dorm style” building with community restrooms on each floor
- Double, triple and single occupancy rooms
- Two full-time professional live-in staff plus 17 peer Resident Assistants living on the floors
- Large laundry room and community kitchen on first floor; laundry room is "online" so residents can check the status of the machines from their computers.
- Three central lounges, plus lounges on each residence floor
Horton Hall
- Newest residence hall, opened Fall 2006
- Men on 5 floors; women on 5 floors
- Traditional “dorm style” building with community restrooms on each floor
- Double, triple and single occupancy rooms
- Two full-time professional live-in staff plus 16 peer Resident Assistants living on the floors
- Large laundry room and community kitchen on first floor with attached game room; laundry room is “on line” so residents can check the status of machines from their computers.
- Large central lounge and community multi-use room, plus area.
Sigma Chi
- Men on three floors; women on three floors
- Suite-style rooms (two rooms sharing an attached bath)
- One full-time professional live-in staff plus 12 peer Resident Assistants living on the floors
- Laundry rooms on each floor
- Lounges with attached kitchens on each floor
- Air conditioned
Stewart Hall
- Men in the Quads and downstairs Suites and women in the upstairs Suites
- Front section of the building is “quad” hallways (four rooms opening on a small hallway with a shared community restroom)
- Rear section is suite-style rooms
- One part-time Resident Coordinator plus 12 peer Resident Assistants living on the floors
- One large centrally located community kitchen
- Large laundry room on first floor
- Large lounge with pool table and TV
- Suites are air conditioned
Thompson Hall
- Women on three floors, men on three floors

- 15 off-campus apartments; 4 two-bedroom and 11 one-bedroom

- Live-in Residence Coordinator provides resources and programs, supervised by Assistant Director of Residence Life

Beachcomber Apartments
- 15 fully furnished off-campus apartments, 4 two-bedroom and 11 one-bedroom

Tradewind Apartments
- 17 fully furnished off-campus apartments, 4 two-bedroom and 13 one-bedroom
- About a seven-minute walk from campus

- Two-bedroom units house four students each; one-bedroom units house two or three students each
- Live-in Residence Coordinator provides resources and programs, supervised by Assistant Director of Residence Life
- Laundry room
Tropicana Apartments
- 23 off-campus two-bedroom apartments, about a ten-minute walk from campus
- 4 residents per apartment
- Juniors and Seniors
- Fully furnished
- Live-in Residence Coordinator provides resources and programs, supervised by Assistant Director of Residence Life programs
- Laundry room and swimming pool
- One carport parking space per apartment

Residence Hall Lounge Kitchens
- Residence hall kitchens are not intended for cooking on a regular basis, but are for preparing snacks and for special occasions.
- Neither residence hall nor apartment kitchens are equipped with cookware, dishes or utensils.
- Apartment kitchens are furnished with refrigerators, stoves, microwave ovens and garbage disposals. Li and Welch kitchens and most of the Lido Mirada apartments have dishwashers.
- Policies related to residence hall lounge kitchen use are determined by each residence hall under the direction of the Resident Director.
- Cooking is allowed only in the kitchens, not in residence hall rooms or apartment bedrooms.
- The cleanliness of each kitchen is the responsibility of those who use it.

Laundry Rooms
- Laundry rooms and laundry equipment are for the exclusive use of residents. No storage is allowed in laundry rooms.
- Residence hall washers and dryers are card operated. Residents are provided a laundry card the first time they move into residence hall housing. Replacement cards may be purchased from designated add-value stations in residence hall lobbies.
- Apartment washers and dryers are coin operated (quarters). Quarters may be obtained from the University Cashier during their posted business hours.
- Clothes are to be dried only in the laundry rooms.
- If a machine is out of order please report the specific problem, including the number and location of the broken machine, to Web Services Company at 1-800-421-6897; select option “1” from the menu.

Storage
- The University does not provide storage for student belongings.
- Engines, motorcycles, mopeds, jet skis, tires, gasoline, oil cans or other flammable petroleum products may not be stored in any residence hall or apartment building at any time.
- Storage of hazardous or toxic chemicals, substances or materials is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: charcoal briquettes, charcoal starter fluid and other barbecue materials and photographic development chemicals.
- Upon check-out, any personal property left in the residence halls or apartments will be considered abandoned and will be disposed of.

Telephones
- Each residence hall room and each bedroom in the apartments is supplied with a telephone.
- Telephones are not to be removed from rooms or apartments. Students who wish to use their own telephones must store the University’s phone in the room or apartment and put it back in place at check out.
- Charges for missing telephones or for telephone repairs not due to normal wear and tear are the responsibility of the residents of the room or apartment to which the telephone is assigned.
- Vandalism, telephone threats, or tampering with electrical or telephone equipment is not permitted. Failure to comply may result in severe disciplinary action and/or further action taken by the appropriate University department.
- Please report all disturbing or harassing telephone calls to CampusSafety (dial “0” from any campus phone).
Vending
- Report any problems with vending machines to Carolyn White, ext. 5810. Refunds are given at the Auxiliary Services front desk, Student Services Building.
