Our Priorities

Message from President Barry H. Corey

In 1908, a small group of people with the faith and finances to create change saw both a city on the verge of greatness and a church in danger of surrendering its faith. Under the visionary leadership of oilman Lyman Stewart and pastor T.C. Horton, they established the Bible Institute of Los Angeles.

More than a century since its founding, Biola has grown from a Bible Institute into a comprehensive, national Christian university.

Our core mission, however, has remained unchanged: equipping men and women in mind and character to impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ. Biblically centered education is at the heart of what we do.

Biola has become one of the world’s leading comprehensive Christian universities, offering more than 150 undergraduate and graduate programs across nine schools. We encompass more than 6,300 students from every state and 44 countries, 60,000-plus alumni, faculty numbering in the hundreds, and thousands of friends and supporters worldwide. Our extended community is rapidly expanding, embodying conviction and courage in a multitude of ways throughout the world.

In the years to come, Biola University aspires to make an impact that will eclipse anything seen in our first century of service. Our University Plan, made up of seven aspirations which encompass the specific areas of present focus, will ensure that Biola continues to carry out the mission of its founders while also becoming a university more comprehensive and global than our founders ever envisioned.

In 2022 when anyone talks about Christian higher education I want Biola to be one of the schools they immediately think of. I want Biola to be an internationally known place: because our reputation for top-notch, academically rigorous Christian education has grown, but also because we are known as a community of passion, love and service.

Exciting things are happening at Biola University and the future is bright. Innovation abounds and passion pervades the campus, and new technologies are expanding Biola’s reach. Biola’s plans are ambitious but our God is faithful. We believe the legacy and global impact of our first century is just the beginning of what God has planned – and YOU, the faithful friends, family and alumni of Biola University, are an essential part of our future.
