"Alpha is the only all girls resident hall at Biola, which leads to a vibrant, intimate community. The Residence Life staff in Alpha West help cultivate an atmosphere that allows women to grow in their faith, self awareness and learning how to engage in a Christ centered community. It truly is a gift to serve as the resident director of such a beautiful community. I have learned so much as I have walked with the women of this community in their highs and lows, and am excited for you to be a part of this community."— Sarah Brown, Alpha West Resident Director
Alpha West is staffed by 6 RAs, under the supervision of Resident Director Sarah Brown. Alpha is a traditional 'dorm-style' hall with community restrooms and a laundry room on each floor. There is a large main-floor lounge, a rooftop sundeck, a main kitchen, and two microwave rooms. The lounges, prayer room, and study room were recently rennovated to create a warm, inviting community area for residents.
Built in 1966, Alpha is such a large residence hall that it is treated as two communities: the west wing is known as Alpha West and the east wing as Alpha East, each with its own RD and staff of RAs. Alpha is the last 'women only' hall on campus.
New! The lounges of Alpha Hall were completely rennovated in Summer 2014 so that Alpha residents will have a comfortable, enjoyable hang-out place for fellowship and community-building.
Alpha West Hall's doors are secured by an electronic access system, so only students can access the building during the day, and only residents may enter the building at night. Each individual room is key-locked for student security. Security cameras in outside and common areas are monitored 24 hours per day, and Campus Safety patrols campus regularly to ensure student security at all times.
Each room differs slightly, so your room may look different. There are many other ways to personalize the layout of your room from these samples.
I didn't actually want to live in Alpha for the reason that it was only girls (I've grown up with brothers, and interact easily with guys), but now I think it is one of the most wonderful things about it! There is no other time in life when you get the opportunity to live in community with over 300 girls who love Jesus!
Candyland - Every October 31st, Alpha East and West decorate their halls as the well-loved board game, Candyland. Children from the surrounding community come dressed up for a sweet adventure as they go door to door collecting treats from the residence.
GlampFest is an all Alpha-East camping trip at the coast in Spring.
Flannels and Flapjacks - Every spring the women of Alpha dress up in their best plaid for this woodsy tradition.
