  • Associate Professor of Biology

  • Ph.D., Loma Linda University
  • M.S., Institute for Creation Research

My passion is for organisms and their environment. The best part of my job is being able to take students to the ocean, the forest or the desert and introduce them to the vibrant and dynamic relationships that God has created there. Plus I get to run all my lab sessions outside! I direct the science writing program here at Biola, and I serve in several ministry organizations. My research background is in behavior ecology in organisms from primates to hermit crabs.

  • B.S., California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
  • Teaching Credential, California State University, Long Beach

As chairman of the biology department I have the pleasure of leading the first year seminar course for students in our majors. I love hearing the stories about how God has brought these students to Biola, and I’m excited to be a part of preparing them for a career in science. I have a passion for microbes, molecules and good food, and I mix all three whenever possible. I also direct student research projects on the aging process using the nematode worm as a model.

Ruth Ebeling

  • Associate Professor of Biological Sciences

  • M.S., California State University, Long Beach
  • B.S., Biola University

My specialty is people with their skin off. I’m fascinated by God’s exquisite design in the forms and functions of the human body. I’m especially interested in brain function and brain disorders. I direct independent study students in their work dissecting cadavers (prosection) and I advise students pursuing careers in physical therapy and chiropractics. I love books, writing fiction and teaching Sunday school.
