The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department (CSD) at Biola University is proud to present its first annual continuing education course, “Advancing Professional Leadership.” This course is designed to equip practicing SLPs to become better supervisors for their colleagues. Three hours of continuing education will be provided.

Learning Outcomes

Part I: Empowering New Professionals: Supervision Best Practices

Participants will be able to:

  1. Outline the steps of a developmental supervision model.
  2. Explain supervisory behaviors to use for supervises at various levels of supervision development.
  3. Know the purposes and procedures for pre-supervisory conferences and supervisory conferences.

This Continuing Education Course will be lead by: 

Tonya Dantuma, Ph.D., CCC-SLP . 

An experienced SLP and faculty member, Tonya Dantuma scholarship interests include speech sound disorders, global issues and telepractice, and professional issues in speech language pathology. She turns theory into practice each year as she leads service learning trips overseas, works with clients and equips graduate and undergraduate students for professional practice. She recently authored a textbook, Professional Competencies in Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology, published by Jones & Bartlett Learning in which she addresses the competencies necessary for today’s professional clinicians.
