Chanequa Walker-Barnes

Dr. Chanequa Walker-Barnes is a prophetic voice for healing, justice, and reconciliation. Her book, Too Heavy a Yoke: Black Women and the Burden of Strength, examines the impact that the icon of the StrongBlackWoman has upon the health and well-being of African American women. Dr. Chanequa is a theologian and psychologist with earned degrees from Emory University, the University of Miami, and Duke University. She draws upon her dual expertise to write, speak, and teach about self-care, racial and gender justice, and racial reconciliation. She is an associate professor at Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology. On Sundays, she can be found at The Nett Church in Lilburn, Georgia, where she serves as the discipleship pastor.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Dr. Chanequa is married to Delwin Barnes, a mechanical engineer. They are the proud and very happy parents of one son, Micah.
