Where we gather together as a Biola community to worship God in diverse ways, often as we “let the word of Christ dwell richly” (Col. 3:16) in us by reflecting on Christian prayers and practices that deepen the love of Christ in us.

Speakers

James K.A. Smith

Born and raised in Embro, a small village in southwestern Ontario, Canada, James ventured to Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA) in the Fall of 1989 for what would be 10 years of college! After his freshman year, he married his elementary school sweetheart, Deanna who joined him as they made their way back to Iowa.

Three degrees (B.Sc in philosophy and religion, M.Phil in philosophical theology, Ph.D. from Villanova University) and 4 children (Grayson, Coleson, Madison, and Jackson) later, Dr. Smith is a professor of Philosophy at Calvin College where he holds the Gary & Henrietta Byker Chair in Applied Reformed Theology & Worldview. He also occasionally teaches in the PhD program at Calvin Theological Seminary and has been a visting professor at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, and Regent College in Vancouver, BC.

He and his family live in Grand Rapids, Michigan where they enjoy gardening, cooking and traveling.
