Emeritus Professor of Physical Education
Dee Henry is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Elite Professional who is also certified to teach wheelchair tennis. She loves teaching all levels of tennis and coached the women’s tennis team at Biola beginning in 1971. Her students have opportunities to assist her in tennis programs designed for a wide range of ages, abilities and disabilities. Having devoted her professional life to the sport of tennis, she sees it as a microcosm, a miniature life setting, where one can experience thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the opportunity to cheat or to be cheated. Strong focus is on how to make tennis decisions that have to be made very quickly and that the response determines the outcome. The true value of tennis is when the students understand that tennis is more than a game, it is training ground for learning about life. In 2016 Dee Henry was the recipient of the Southern California Special Olympics Tennis Coach of the Season and the International Tennis Hall of Fame Educational Merit Award.
