Mission

The mission of Biola's Division of Biblical and Theological Studies is to teach Christian undergraduate students to view all of God's world through the perspective of God's Word, the Bible. This biblical worldview involves understanding and applying the Bible as the foundation of the Christian faith, values, and virtues — both historically and presently. The goal is that students will lead lives of integrity and will engage the world of ideas, their vocations, their local church communities, and their society as responsible citizens, being faithful stewards of God's gifts to them and, empowered by His Spirit, carrying out Christ's commission to make disciples of all nations.

The following departments are housed within the Division of Biblical and Theological Studies

  • Department of Christian Ministries
The Christian Ministries department aims to develop and equip graduates with personal skills for spiritual formation and with professional skills for ministry so as to be effective leaders in movements of God for the sake of the gospel in the world today.

  • Department of New Testament
The New Testament department aims to develop and equip graduates with a foundational knowledge of the history, literature, and theology of the New Testament along with the methodology for reading Scripture and applying it to their lives.

  • Department of Old Testament
The Old Testament department aims to develop and equip graduates with a foundational knowledge of the history, literature, and theology of the Old Testament to understand how God reveals himself in the Scriptures of Jesus and how that revelation relates to the Christian life.
