Job Shadow Program

Find your fit: spend a day with an employer

What is the Biola Job Shadow Program?

This Job Shadow Program is a ½ day to full day experiential learning opportunity that allows a student to observe a “day in the life” of a specific industry and job function. Students will learn what skills are necessary to thrive in a specific job, build relationships with industry professionals, and gain insight into company’s culture, organizational structure, and hiring practices. The ultimate goal is to help students explore different career paths and “test them out” before engaging in internships. If you are curious, eager to learn, bold and brave to step out of your comfort zone, then this Job Shadow Program is for you

Note: This program is only available for current Biola Crowell School of Business students.

Why should you participate in the Job Shadow Program?

  • Explore career paths of you are curious about without committing to a semester or summer long commitment
  • Build professional relationships and expand your network. Possibly gain new mentors to help in your career journey.
  • Get a “head start” in marketing yourself for internship and full-time job opportunities.
  • Clarify career goals, confirm career decisions and discover how to apply what you learn in the classroom to the workplace.

Does it cost anything to participate?

There are no specific costs associated with the program for students to participate. However, students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the company. As well as responsible for either bringing their own lunch meal or money for purchasing lunch. Once a student is paired with an employer, all of this information will be provided. Finally, this is an unpaid experience for students.

What does a typical Job Shadow day look like?

Every company will structure the day differently. If you are selected to participate and paired with an employer, you will then learn what the agenda is. Below are possible things you may experience at the job shadow.

  • Sitting in on company meetings
  • Observing daily work
  • Working on a small project or learning a new skill
  • A tour of the company
  • Informational interviews with employees

Committing to the program

If you are selected to participate in the program, you must commit to the following:

  • Flexibility to spend one day with an employer during Spring Break (March 2-6th, 2020)
  • Can provide your own transportation to and from the employer’s location (Orange County or Los Angeles County)
  • Maintaining a high level of professionalism before, during, and after visiting your assigned employer
  • Responding promptly to email communication from the Career Center, and from the employer you are paired with.
  • Attending a prep session before the Job Shadow

What is the Application Process?

Please note — Submitting an application does not mean you are accepted to the program. Applications close on Thursday, Feb 20th and will be reviewed promptly. You will be notified on Friday, Feb 21st if you have been accepted into the program and matched with an employer.
