Hi guys!

For today's blog, I wanted to talk about something that I have been thinking about a lot lately - self-care!

Self-care is something both high school and college students tend to neglect as we get wrapped up in the busyness of school. College is full of so many amazing opportunities to get involved, but it is easy to forget to take care of ourselves in the process. That being said, I want to share with you some of my tips on how to incorporate self-care into your crazy schedule.

1. Take care of yourself physically.

God gave us these crazy cool bodies to use to the best of our abilities to glorify him, which means we should take pride in taking care of them. This could mean many different things, whether it’s working out everyday, going for a walk to get moving, or even just pampering yourself with a facemask to relax. Whatever you find that works best for you, work it into your daily routine. I promise it will make a difference!

2. Eat!

This one feels kind of like a no brainer, because who doesn’t love food? But I am definitely guilty of skipping meals here and there because there is simply no time. It ends up affecting my mood and productivity throughout the day. It is so important to be eating balanced meals throughout the day. Our bodies need this fuel and have a hard time functioning without it. So set aside time to eat lunch or snack, as your body will thank you later. (Side note: drinking water is crucial too! Especially if you’re like me and consume multiple cups of coffee per day.)

3. Get outside.

Fresh air definitely does the body good. It can be easy to get trapped inside during the day, working on homework, studying, or even taking Netflix breaks. Vitamin D is crucial to our bodies health, so getting at least a few minutes of it each day is so important. Plus, the SoCal sunshine at Biola makes for perfect weather to hang out or do homework outside.

4. Spend time relaxing and reflecting.

Whether that is through journaling, listening to music, or going for a walk, find a way to destress that works for you. Personally, I have found that journaling and putting my thoughts into words and down on paper has helped clear my head and refocus my mindset, allowing me to jump into school and work without feeling super overwhelmed about everything else that is going on in my life.

5. Do something that gives you life.

Everybody has something that they absolutely love doing, that energizes their soul, and makes them feel alive. Whether that is driving around blasting music and singing, or hanging out with friends all hours of the night, find what you’re passionate about doing, and do it often. We need to make time in our schedules for things that revive us, take our stress away, and can make us momentarily forget about all our responsibilities. This is important to maintain a happy and healthy state of mind.

I hope you guys find these self-care tips helpful and implement a few in your own life. School can be draining, so it is important to make sure you are getting the care and love that you need throughout the semester.

Until next time,

Macie
