Conservatory of Music Visit Day
Come and visit the Biola music department!
November 19, 2018
Are you a sophomore, junior or senior in high school or transfer student who plans to major in music? The Biola Conservatory of Music has dedicated Monday, November 19, to you! We have prepared a day with exclusive opportunities for you to visit classes, tour the campus, visit chapel, have your questions addressed by an Admissions Counselor and enjoy a delicious catered meal. If you are a Spring or Fall 2019 prospective music major, you can also schedule an in-person audition or mini-lesson. Please submit your registration by November 10, 2018. Please remember this is an all-day event and while some activities are mandatory, you do have the opportunity to visit classes of your choice.
Please Note: All auditions or mini-lessons will be scheduled prior to the event. You will be contacted by Stephen Oey of the Conservatory of Music, and he will inform you of the time for your scheduled audition or mini-lesson. No auditions or mini-lessons will be scheduled the day of the event. Auditions will be scheduled for seniors who have completed the Conservatory of Music application only. Lastly, there is a $10 fee per family for this event, which includes a catered lunch. Any questions regarding an audition or mini-lesson should be directed to Stephen Oey at (562) 903-4892.
Before any student may schedule an audition, the music office MUST receive the Music Application and two music references. Once these three materials are received, the student's application file will be complete and they will be cleared to schedule an audition. Networking Coordinator, Kaitie Krogh, will work with the student and the faculty to arrange a time for the audition. Please be aware that your audition is the top priority in your Music Visit Day schedule and we apologize if it conflicts with another event you were hoping to attend. Your audition time is subject to change and we will contact you in the event of such a change.
For more information regarding specific audition repertoire requirements, please click here: https://www.biola.edu/music/
Please Note: The Music in Worship Arts and Music Education degrees also require an interview. Because of the need to schedule multiple meetings throughout the department, it is helpful for students to complete their application files well in advance.
Diagnostic Theory Placement Exam
All music applicants must complete a theory evaluation to be considered for admittance. The Diagnostic Placement exam does not affect acceptance or scholarship distribution, but is used to determine which theory class would best suit the level of the incoming student. Students will be given 90 minutes to complete the test. Check in between 1:30 and 3 p.m. at your discretion and the test must be completed by 4:30 p.m. Please note that students are NOT required to have all of their application materials completed to take the exam, but all senior are to take the placement exam prior to acceptance into the program.
Please register for this event by November 10, 2018.
Note: Theory Evaluation will last for 90 minutes. This is a requirement for all seniors prior to acceptance into the program.
