You are invited to explore the questions of the nature of consciousness, whether human beings are purely physical beings, mental states, and others at a weekend seminar on “Philosophy of Neuroscience” with Mihretu Guta, Adjunct Professor of Philosophy.

About Mihretu Guta

Guta’s research focuses on metaphysics, as well as the intersection between neuroscience and the philosophy of mind. He earned an M.A. in science and religion and an M.A. in philosophy from Biola University, and then a Ph.D. in philosophy from Durham University (United Kingdom), where he was a postdoctoral research fellow studying the nature of the emergence of consciousness.

Guta has presented academic conference papers/public lectures at prominent universities such as Durham University, University of Vienna, University of Helsinki, University of Arizona, Boston University, Biola University and Azusa Pacific University. He has recently co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Consciousness Studies, and is currently working on two books: one is an edited volume entitled Consciousness and Ontology, and the other is a single authored book entitled The Metaphysics of Substance and Personhood: A Non-Theory-Laden Approach. In addition to teaching for Biola's M.A. in science and religion program, Guta also teaches philosophy at Azusa Pacific University and has also been an instructor for the Reasons to Believe Institute for the past five years.
