Change

Life is constantly changing and sometimes I wish I could just stop the clock. I think about my senior year of high school and how I wanted to get off the rock (Hawaii). I wanted to experience life on the mainland and at the same time was searching for the perfect Christian college, on a perfect campus with perfect people.
When I visited Biola, I thought it was too good to be true and in some ways it still is. The Christians I have met and befriended here challenge me to grow in Christ. My professors take the ideas in our text books and make them come to life. My view on college was a little misguided before I came. I thought that we would sit through lecture after lecture and then take test after test. I did not think I would have time to make friends or laugh ever again. Okay, that was an exaggeration on my part.
Now after a semester of classes, I have come to the conclusion that learning can be fun. My heart and my mind are being transformed daily. We have in-class discussions instead of lecture after lecture. The issues we discuss in class stick with me and I am able to apply them on a regular basis.
Whenever I am being overloaded by homework, a couple of my friends and I go and hang out for a couple hours. There are a lot of things to do on weeknights. People have Bible studies, others watch movies at the dollar theatre or DVDs in their dorms, and some play music.
This past weekend some of my friends and I watched a Taiko performance (Japanese drums). It was amazing! The auditorium was packed and it opened our eyes to another culture. Afterwards, we decided we wanted to go to the beach. We jumped in the car and went to Newport. I brought my guitar and we just sat on the sand and sang worship songs.
I do miss home a lot, especially the food, but overall I am glad I am growing more and more mentally and spiritually. Change is inevitable, so even though I may want to stop the clock and enjoy the moment, I am always looking forward to tomorrow.

Hey Lauren,
I'm glad you picked BIOLA. It is nice to know that someone shares the same experience.
