Living In The OC

It was truly hard to believe that August 19th had finally arrived, but wow, it got here fast. I had spent the last three years in high school wondering where God was going to put me at this time in my life. There were so many possibilities and variations on what could have happened and where I could be today, but Biola it was, in beautiful California.
Move-in day went really well. Thankfully my Mom and Dad were staying in the area for a few days, so we didn't have to say our goodbyes just yet. I felt completely unfazed by this transitional period. In fact, I sort of felt out of the loop because the requisite nervousness that comes with starting college just wasn't there for me. I'd spent weeks and weeks away from home before, so coming to college was more exciting than nerve-wracking for me.
College is so much better than high school because everyone lives so close. You can be cool and hang out without even trying. I live in Hope Hall, which is kind of like a hotel, with keycards to swipe in the auto-locking doors and a big double-decker lobby. My floor, called The Underground, is packed with the coolest people at Biola.
It's amazing how fast all of us total strangers formed into a tight crew. Within two days, we were parked in front of my roommate's massive computer screen absorbed in Season One of "The OC", a show we decided to give a shot because, heck, we're in the OC! I never thought I would watch a soap opera but... you know. Ironically, a guy next door to us looks EXACTLY like Adam Brody.
My second weekend here, I went to Huntington Beach with some of my new friends. I had been there before but... wow! Beaches like this are why people come to California. So all of us rookies rented surfboards and after half an hour of being beaten up by the waves and falling off the boards while trying to look like we'd done it before, we smoothly bowed out. Then we stretched out on our towels and soaked up the sun, achieving a state of bliss and rest I didn't know was possible.
I've had the most fun here by simply meeting people. The best way to get new friends is to do all the SOS events! There's a beach party, a hang-out day, and a baseball game. It probably sounds like they're paying me to say this, but there's no way to really kick off Biola properly unless you do all three.
As for classes, they have been pretty easy - nothing to be scared of. And the best part is, they start at like 8:30 or 9:30, so I automatically get more sleep than I did in high school! I also really enjoy having large breaks between classes to have lunch, do homework, or just relax.
I wish I could write about everything and elaborate on all the fun that goes on here, but college is busy so I'll save more details for next time. Later!
