Master of Divinity with an Emphasis in Spiritual Formation
The Master of Divinity degree is at the heart of the seminary program and is fundamental to training pastors for the ministry. The Master of Divinity with Spiritual Formation & Soul Care Emphasis (hereafter called M. Div., Spiritual Formation) includes:
- The best of a traditional seminary course of study (Bible, theology, biblical languages, expository preaching, etc.)
- A full curriculum in spiritual formation
- Supervised training in soul care
- Curricular and co-curricular growth experiences including spiritual direction, retreat and therapy.
The degree specifically provides preparation for ministries of spiritual formation and soul care for the sake of personal and corporate growth of the church within such roles as teaching pastor, associate pastor, youth pastor, women’s ministries and college/seminary teaching. Emphasis is upon student growth in the life of the Spirit grounded in a deep understanding of the Word and theological reflection in prayer for the purpose of greater humility, dependence upon, and love of God.
The program offers an M. Div. Degree upon completion of 98 units of course work, and various training, and co-curricular, experiential requirements.
