Grade Point Average Information
Grade Point Scale
Quality of coursework is graded on the following scale, with a system of grade points used to determine a student's general grade point average or standing:
|Grade||One Credit||Two Credits||Three Credits||Four Credits||Five Credits||Six Credits|
The following grades are also used with special significance in certain programs and are not used in computing the GPA:
|CR||Credit (see note #1)||0.00|
|NC||No Credit (see note #3)||N/A|
|S||Satisfactory (see note #1)||0.00|
|US||Unsatisfactory (see note #3)||0.00|
|RD||Report Delay (see note #3)||N/A|
|RG||Registered in course (see note #2)||N/A|
|R||Research (see note #1)||0.00|
|IP||Internship in Progress (see note #1)||0.00|
|W||Withdrawal (see note #3)||N/A|
|AUD||Audit (see note #3)||0.00|
|NR||Not reported by faculty (see note #3)||N/A|
|NO||Non-graded Course (see note #1)||0.00|
#1 No grade points. Credit given.
#2 No grade points.
#3 No grade points. No credit given.
A credit ("CR") indicates completion of coursework with academic performance equal to or higher than the "satisfactory" standard for the degree program (normally "C," or 2.00, for undergraduate courses and "B," or 3.00, for graduate programs).
A "W" indicates an official withdrawal (within the third to eighth week) from a course and does not affect the student's grade point average.
A "UW" indicates an unofficial withdrawal. Students who register for courses but do not attend classes are given the grade of "UW" which will influence the GPA in the same way as an "F" grade.
A temporary mark of "RD" (report delayed) will be issued in special cases when approved by the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (undergraduate students) or the deans of the respective schools (graduate students).
To calculate your grade point average (GPA)
Add the total number of grade points earned and divide this number by the total number of graded credits earned. For example, if you have earned a total of 8 points based on a total of 2 graded credits, your GPA would be 4.00. (i.e. 8.00 grade points ÷ 2 graded credits = 4.00 grade point average)
