Greeting |

This morning despite a slight mist, hundreds of very excited Seniors practiced walking across that long awaited stage. While the Seniors did not get diplomas or hand shakes from the President today, they did get two pieces of very important Biola memorabilia: the red "Bye-ola" t-shirt and the "Biola Alumni" license plate frame. The students also picked up letters they wrote to themselves in their SOS groups their first week at Biola. All reminders that tomorrow by lunch time, something will be very different about them. They will officially be graduates of Biola University. While graduation day is primarily a time to celebrate those graduates, we wanted to take this chance to recognize those of you who will be there tomorrow unreservedly cheering them on, and who have actually been cheering them on for many, many years. From the Office of Parent Relations we thank you for the privilege of working with and serving your family over the past years. It is our prayer that throughout your student's Biola career, your whole family has in various ways been better equipped to impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ. We recognize that for most families a Biola education does not come without its sacrifices, and we are grateful that despite the sacrifice, your family saw the immeasurable worth of a biblically centered education. Please know that once you are a Biola Parent, you are always a Biola Parent. While after your student graduates you may never have need of our office's services again, we are here if you do. As the campus empties tomorrow, and students and families return to their homes near and far, please prayfully keep in mind those students who will be venturing out to serve in places like Panama, China, Malawi, Zambia, Russia, and Indonesia. Blessings and have a great summer! Mallory Rae and Colleen Heykoop |

Question of the Week |

Responses to Weekly Question #4: Reflecting on this past year, what are some of the good things that God has done for your student and your family? As the Centennial year, academic year, and another year of your family's time at Biola, draw to a close, let's remember all of the blessings the Lord provided along the way! 1. As we reflect on this past year, we have so much for which to be thankful. Our son transfered to Biola his Sophomore year. After the first few weeks of school at Biola he wrote us and said that he felt he was without a doubt where he should be. Still, my biggest fear as a mom was "What if something should happen? You are so far away." Well my biggest fear came true February 28, 2008. Our son, was in a very serious bicycle vs. car accident and was airlifted to the LA County Hospital. He was all alone in the trauma center, no one knew he was there, and the next flight to get out to California was not until 7 a.m. My first reaction was who do I call? I called his room to get in touch with his roommate -- no answer (make sure you know your child's roommate's cell phone). I then called his coach at Biola on his cell phone and immediately he made arrangements to go and be with him. He was able to call and give us an update in the middle of the night. Ryan had surgery and spent two weeks in the hospital in California before he was able to make the plane ride home. God provided in so many ways during that time! The worst did happen and in the midst of it we saw the Biola community go into action - prayers, student visits, faculty visits and calls, many caring cards, gifts, and words of encouragement! Now we know that he is in the right place and we are so thankful that God brought us through "Every mother's worst nightmare!" Ryan is doing well in the recuperation process, has a great attitude, and is looking forward to returning to Biola in the fall. We are so thankful for the influence and support of the Biola faculty, staff, parents and STUDENTS! 2. God has done so many things. He has answered prayers for our son's safety and diligence in his studies while at Biola. God has also been teaching us all about the importance of family and relationships. We are learning how to budget our money better, and God has been speaking to our son about his future career plans. Our son is learning to trust God more in a practical way, and so are we! 3. I feel that my son has grown as a Christian and as a person this year. He seems more confident. As a parent this year, I found myself praying more and more for the University and for the wellbeing of everyone on campus. We have also found this year that school has been costly for us as a family. Because of this we have all made sacrifices, but our son is worth the sacrifice! God bless, have a safe and wonderful summer. |
