Greeting

Well, this is March and the months are just flying by! At the last Parent Council meeting, the Council had the pleasure of hearing from the Director of Financial Aid as he explained what is currently going on in their department and what they are doing to help our students. I was amazed!  With one daughter, Angelina, currently in her 3rd year, and an incoming freshman, Michaelene, you would think that I would understand the financial aid dance, so to speak, right? Wrong!

I was amazed to learn that by just filing earlier, our students would have a better chance of receiving limited financial aid grant money. Also, if we could get our kids to fill out the FAFSA and apply for outside scholarship opportunities, guess what, they just might qualify for some additional assistance! Wow, what a concept!! I realized that we have to teach our kids about becoming more proactive in searching out for grants and aid. Fortunately, the Director of Financial Aid also indicated that he and his staff are gearing up for a great new campus-wide administrative program (Banner) that may allow students to apply for, and will match them to, available institutional scholarships. The implementation of this system will take place over the next two years.

Also, do you know that if you have questions about awarded money for your students that your student can call Financial Aid, and if you want to know about dispersed money your student can call Accounting? A lot of times our students just don't know what department to talk to, and so I pass this bit of information along so you can help inform your student.

I walked away from this Parent Council meeting with the understanding that the Office of Financial Aid is truly a friendly place and their staff want to assist our students. Remember where God guides he provides- "I will never leave you or forsake you." Joshua 1:5

Remember to file those FAFSA applications!!

Did You Know?

You can file the FAFSA before completing your taxes!

When it comes to the FAFSA the earlier your students gets started the better.  In fact, you can and should begin to fill it out now, even if your taxes are not done.  Why? Because even just beginning an online application places your student in line for Federal and State Funding.  So fill in as much information as possible now, and then when you have your taxes done go back and fill in the rest.  To find out more information on the FAFSA and State and Federal deadlines, visit the FAFSA Website.
