Center for Learning Enrichment, Assessment, and Research (C.L.E.A.R.)

The CLEAR office comprises Faculty Development and University Effectiveness. The Director of Faculty Development reports to the Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Academic Effectiveness. The Dean of University Effectiveness reports to the Provost.

The mission of CLEAR is to help spearhead the university's efforts to become a more intentional learning organization, committed to educational effectiveness and excellence. With the goal to coordinate and assist in evaluation of Biola's overall impact on the development of our students in both mind and character, the following are the objectives of CLEAR:

  1. To lead in the institutional efforts to achieve educational effectiveness and excellence, with a strategic focus on student learning and assessing student learning outcomes.
  2. To assist in the assessment of our institutional impact on the intellectual, spiritual, and character development of our students.
  3. To spearhead the universities efforts to become a more intentional learning organization, and to evaluate, coordinate, and support the curricular and co-curricular assessment efforts across campus.
  4. To effectively utilize the results of assessment for ongoing strategic planning and improvement of educational programs.

To accomplish these objectives CLEAR works with academic and co-curricular programs as they develop, schedule and implement effective program reviews, and with departments as they assess student learning outcomes and teaching effectiveness. Such systematic and intentional assessment data is utilized for ongoing strategic planning and improvement of educational effectiveness. CLEAR thus serves as a valuable resource to departments by providing consultation and analysis.
