Availability & Placement
Biola Undergraduate Housing is available to traditional non-married undergraduate students enrolled full-time at Biola University. Exceptions will be considered for non-traditional and part-time undergraduate students based on community needs and impact. Students are housed in specific locations based on biological sex at the time of birth.
Students under 20 years old as of the first day of Fall classes are required to live in University housing unless commuting from their parents'/guardians' home. This is called the Biola University Residence Requirement.
If at any time the Housing Office learns that a student who falls under the Residence Requirement is not living at their parents'/guardians' home or in Biola Housing, that student may be required to move into Housing.
Students who plan to commute from their parents' home must complete an online Commuter Request form, available on MyBiola > Student Tab > MyHousing link > ApplyOnline > Request to Commute.
Students who plan/are required to live in University Housing must complete an online Housing Application for the relevant term, available on MyBiola > Student Tab > MyHousing link > ApplyOnline.
Apartments/Thompson Residency Restriction
- Only students who are 20 years of age as of the first date of Fall classes, or who are Juniors or Seniors are permitted to live in Biola apartments. Upperclassmen are welcome to apply for housing in Residence Halls, but are encouraged to participate in the semi-independent living experience of apartment life.
- Thompson Hall (residence hall, not apartments) is reserved for non-freshmen students only.
- Only students officially assigned to a room or apartment may reside in that room or apartment.
- University housing is to be used only for residential purposes. Selling or conducting a business, including the performance of services with no exchange of payment, from rooms or apartments is prohibited.
- No tattooing or piercing is to be performed on any campus property.
Student Teaching Residents
- Students who are involved only in student teaching or practicum assignments will be eligible for University housing on a space-available basis, and must be cleared by the Housing Office and by the Finance Office in order to be assigned to University housing.
Holidays, Interterm & Summer Housing
The 2013-2014 Academic Year, for the purposes of the Housing & Food Service Contract, begins Opening Day, Friday, August 23, 2013 and runs through the day of Spring Commencement, Friday, May 23, 2014, excluding Christmas Break (Saturday, December 21, 2013 through Tuesday, December 31, 2013).
Semester housing fees listed under Room Rates do not apply to Christmas Break, Interterm or Summer. Residence hall housing for Interterm and Summer as well as apartment housing for Christmas and Interterm must be arranged for separately and is subject to the relevant fee structures.

- Students are welcome to remain in Biola housing during the Thanksgiving Break at no additional charge. There is no sign-up requirement.
Undergraduate Residence Halls
- All halls close for Christmas Break. All residents must complete end-of-Fall check-out whether or not they are permanently moving out of housing. End-of-Fall check-out consists of completing and submitting a Check-Out Approval Form provided by Residence Life, as well as returning the room key. Students who do not check out properly are subject to Residence Life fines. Students who do not return their room key will be billed the $55 cost to rekey the room in addition to a $50 Improper Check-Out fine.
- Non-graduating residents must vacate their rooms/apartments no later than 10:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013. Residents may leave their belongings in the room/apartment, but will not have access to the room/apartment during the break.
- Residents graduating in December must vacate their rooms/apartments no later than 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013.
- Graduating residents who wish to live in Biola Housing after graduation while completing student teaching must get pre-approval from the Undergraduate Housing Office prior to December 9, 2013.
- International students or students who cannot go to their parents' homes are encouraged to make alternate housing arrangements with friends, through their local churches, or stay in a local hotel. The Director of International Student Services is also available to connect students with local resources.
Any student not signed up for Christmas apartment housing (or without special permission in writing from the Undergraduate Housing Manager, Resident Director or Resident Coordinator) found INSIDE a Biola University residence hall or apartment at any time after the buildings close will be removed and will be referred for disciplinary action, regardless of whether or not the student is assigned to the building for the Fall and/or Spring semesters. ONLY APARTMENT RESIDENTS are eligible to sign up for Christmas housing.
Undergraduate Apartment Housing
- Undergraduate apartments do not close during Christmas Break, however apartment residents MUST SIGN UP for Christmas housing on ApplyOnline from November 15 – December 12, 2013.
- Interterm housing is only available to students who are registered for Spring 2014 AND who are either enrolled for Interterm classes, are international students, are Spring athletic team members, are involved in the Spring play or musical, or are students who live outside local commuting distance with local employment continuing through Interterm.
- Any student planning to live in University housing during any portion of Interterm MUST APPLY FOR INTERTERM HOUSING on MyHousing ApplyOnline prior to the December 31 deadline.
- Students who want Interterm Housing and are qualified, yet do not apply by the deadline will be permitted to stay on a case-by-case basis. Students who live within commuting distance will not be approved to stay. A $50 late sign-up fee will be charged to any student permitted to stay.
- Students found staying in Biola housing during Interterm without applying or getting late approval will be fined a minimum of $100 and may be required to vacate the premises.
- Interterm Housing Check-In is at the Housing office (Student Services Building). See IMPORTANT DATES section for dates and times.
- All students planning to live in University housing during Interterm must be registered for the Spring 2014 semester.
- Continuing students who do not plan to remain in housing for Spring 2014 must submit a Housing Cancellation Request form and vacate their rooms by the Christmas Break Closing Date (see IMPORTANT DATES) to avoid Interterm Housing Charges.
- Students who wish to apply for an exception to remain in University housing for an Interterm class should inquire at the Housing Office to learn whether their room will be available. Those who are granted exceptions to stay for Interterm must schedule a check-out appointment with the Housing Office prior to the Spring semester Opening date.
- Students who cancel housing for the Spring semester after the final date of Fall semester must schedule a check-out appointment within three (3) business days of the notification of cancellation, or be charged a $25 Late Check-Out Fee. Students who fail to complete their check-out appointments will also be charged a $25 Late Check-out Fee.
- Students will not be considered to be completely checked out until all belongings are removed from the room or apartment, or until their room/apartment key is returned to the Housing office, whichever is later. Students are expected to be physically present to remove their own belongings and complete the check-out appointment, but if necessary a proxy may be appointed. Contact the Housing Office for procedures on assigning a proxy.
- Students are welcome to remain in Biola Housing during the Easter Break at no additional charge. No sign-up process is required for remaining in undergraduate housing during Easter Break since all are welcome to stay. There is limited meal service in the Eagle's Nest only during Easter Break (see IMPORTANT DATES).
- In order to be eligible for Summer Housing students must be registered for summer session, or pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester regardless of whether they are taking summer classes. Summer Housing is NOT available to students who have graduated or withdrawn from the University at the end of the Spring semester.
- Any student planning to live in University housing during any portion of the summer must apply in the Housing Office during the posted dates for the Summer Housing Application. Students will be billed based on the dates for which they sign up on their Summer Housing Application. Extensions or early cancellations must be requested IN WRITING to the HOUSING OFFICE. Approvals for extensions or early cancellations will be given IN WRITING from the Undergraduate Housing Manager.
Students are responsible for all terms and conditions of the Student Handbook, the Housing & Food Service Contract and the Housing & Food Service Handbook at the rate(s) determined by Auxiliary Services at any time they are living in University housing.
Designated Triple Rooms
- Each year, in the event the University deems it necessary in order to accommodate new incoming students, rooms normally designed for double occupancy will be designated as three-to-a-room occupancy. These rooms are known as designated triples.
- The designated triple occupancy room rate is approximately 75% of the normal room rate for the Academic Year. This rate applies to occupants of designated triples regardless of the actual number of residents in the room. This reduced rate will remain in effect as long as the room is still considered a Designated Triple by the Undergraduate Housing Office.
Permanent Triple Rooms
- Permanent triples are rooms that are designed in size for a minimum of three occupants. Permanent triples are located in Hope Hall and Horton Hall. Permanent triple rooms have the same per-person room rate as double-occupancy rooms in the same building.
All Triple Rooms
- All furnishings in triple rooms must remain in the rooms for the entire Academic Year, even if fewer than three students are residing in the room.
- TheThe Housing Office reserves the right to assign additional residents to any triple room in the event one or more of the original roommates leaves the room assignment.
- Residents of triple rooms may not request to have any empty bed(s) in the room remain vacant.
Permanent Single Rooms
- Permanent singles are rooms that are designed in size for one occupant, or which have been determined to be too small for two occupants. Permanent singles are located in Emerson Hall, Hope Hall and Horton Hall.
- All permanent single rooms in Hope and Horton Halls are held for use by residents needing accommodations and are assigned in conjunction with The Learning Center.
Married Undergraduate Students
- Married undergraduate students may inquire about availability or apply for apartment housing through the Graduate Housing office in Auxiliary Services.
- The Department of Commuter Life partners with a third-party website (www.biola.och101.com) which lists local rental opportunities.
- Off-campus apartments, owned or leased by Biola University, will be made available to single and married Graduate students. All Graduate students interested in Biola-provided housing should contact Auxiliary Services for availability and locations.
- Single graduate students may be housed in undergraduate housing on a space-available basis. Rooms are double occupancy. Meal plans are required (10-meals-per-week minimum). Graduate students are not offered the option of reserving rooms in undergraduate housing for the following academic year, but must apply to be put on a waiting list for space-available housing in undergraduate halls for the upcoming year.
Adult Degree/Part-Time Program Students
No University housing is provided for students enrolled in the Adult Degree Programs or other part-time graduate programs (such as the Crowell School of Business MBA).
Important Cancellation Information
- Undergraduate Housing Contract durations is both Fall and Spring semesters.
- Requests for cancellation must be made in writing to the Housing Office by the contracted student (and the Student's parent/guardian if the Student is a minor), not by a relative, friend, roommate, Biola staff member or any other party. Failure to comply strictly with cancellation procedures as stated herein will continue to bind the Student to all terms of the Housing & Food Service Contract for the academic year.
Canceling the Housing Portion of the Contract
- Students are held responsible for fulfilling their Housing Contract. Any requests to cancel are subject to cancellation fees and will only be considered for the following reasons: withdrawal/transfer to another school, commuting from parents' home (for students under 20 years old, by the first date of classes for Fall semester), change from full- to part-time status.
- To begin the cancellation process students must submit a Housing Cancellation Request Form to the Housing Office. This form can be obtained from a Housing Office staff member or on the Biola University Housing and Residence Life website.
- Regardless of when cancellation of the Housing portion of the Contract is submitted or approved, official cancellation will not take effect until the Student has properly checked out of the room.
- Should a Student's Housing Contract be terminated, the Student is required to schedule a check-out appointment within 24 hours of notification of cancellation.
- Students who cancel housing for the Spring semester during Christmas Break or Interterm must schedule a check-out appointment that falls within three (3) business days of the notification of cancellation, or be charged a $25 Late Check-Out fee.
- Students who fail to schedule a check-out appointment with the Housing Office will be charged a $50 Failure to Check Out fee.
- Students who fail to show up for their check-out appointment will be charged a $25 Late Check-Out fee.
- The cancelling Student must return their room/apartment key to the Housing Office and vacate the Housing Assignment within 48 hours of the scheduled check-out appointment unless special permission, in writing, has been obtained from the Housing Manager (email@example.com or extension 5838) or his/her designee. Students will not be considered checked out completely until all belongings are removed from the room/apartment, or until the room/apartment key is returned to the Housing Office, whichever is later. Any prorated refund of housing fees will be based on the later date.
- Students are expected to be physically present to remove their own belongings. A proxy may be designated if the student is unable to be present for medical or psychological reasons.
Cancellation Conditions NOT Requiring The Purchase Release Option
- WITHDRAWAL/TRANSFER: The Housing portion of the Contract will be considered cancelled if the Student officially withdraw from, or is no longer enrolled at Biola University. The official housing cancellation date is the date the Registrar's Office lists as the official departure date. The Housing Contract is not considered fulfilled for this cancellation reason and the Housing Deposit will not be refunded.
- STUDY ABROAD: Students who are confirmed by the Registrar's Office to be attending a Biola-sponsored semester of study away from campus may cancel the Housing Contract for the semester they are abroad. The Housing Contract is considered cancelled for this reason and the Housing Deposit will be refunded.
- MARRIAGE DURING THE CONTRACT YEAR: The Housing Contract is considered cancelled if a resident marries during the course of the academic year. The Housing Contract is considered fulfilled for this cancellation reason and the Housing Deposit will be refunded.
ACADEMIC DISMISSAL: Students who are academically dismissed will be billed for the amount of time their belongings are in the room/apartment or until the room/apartment key is returned to the Housing Office, whichever is later. Students who are academically dismissed for the Spring semester will not accrue housing charges during Interterm, but will be billed for prorated Spring charges until check-out or key return is completed, whichever is later. The Housing Contract is not considered fulfilled for this cancellation reason and the Housing Deposit will not be refunded.
DISCIPLINARY DISMISSAL: Students who are dismissed at any time during the academic year for disciplinary reasons will be billed for the amount of time their belongings are in the room/apartment or until the room/apartment key is returned to the Housing Office, whichever is later. Such Students are also responsible for prorated Meal Plan charges and Residence Life fines, if applicable. The Housing Contract is not considered fulfilled for this cancellation reason and the Housing Deposit will not be refunded.
Cancellation Conditions Which Require The Purchase Release Option
- MOVING HOME: Students who will be living at parents'/legal guardians' home and wish to be released from the Housing & Food Service Contract will be expected to exercise the Purchase Release Option described below. Applicants must complete a Housing Cancellation Request Form (available in the Housing Office, Student Services Building). Requests for other types of arrangements will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and, if approved, will be subject to the Purchase Release Option. The Housing Contract is not considered fulfilled for this cancellation reason and the Housing Deposit will not be refunded.
- REDUCTIONS FROM FULL- TO PART-TIME STATUS: Students who change from full-time to part-time status during the academic year and wish to be released from your Contract will be expected to exercise the Purchase Release Option described below. Complete a Housing Cancellation Request Form (available in the Housing Office, Student Services Building). The Housing Contract is not considered fulfilled for this cancellation reason and the Housing Deposit will not be refunded.
- MOVING TO NON-BIOLA HOUSING: Students who wish to cancel their Housing Contract to find a more affordable or desirable housing option will be required to exercise the Purchase Release option described below. The Housing Contract is not considered fulfilled for this cancellation reason and the Housing Deposit will not be refunded.
Exceptions to the Contract Purchase Release
Only students who, after signing the Housing Contract, have experienced financial, family or medical circumstances which caused the Student or their family to suffer hardship may petition the Housing Office for permission to be released from the Housing portion of the & Food Service Contract without having to exercise the Purchase Release option. Students should contact the Housing Office to learn whether they qualify for the exception process. Qualifying Students will be provided the appropriate paperwork and procedures for application. Submitting a request does not guarantee the Student will be released from the cancellation requirements.
Purchase Release Option Details
- All contracted residents are expected to fulfill the full term (the entire academic year) of their Housing & Food Service Contract. Housing at Biola is in high demand; some students who desire housing may be turned away due to lack of available beds. Therefore, the expectation is that all students who contract for housing will have thought out the LEGAL COMMITMENTS of signing a Housing & Food Service Contract ahead of time, and will have entered into an academic year Contract with the full intention of abiding by all its provisions.
- Students who wish to exercise the Purchase Release Option will pay a prorated housing charge to be released from the Housing portion of the Contract. The amount of the charge depends upon when the contracted resident wishes to be released. Students will pay two (2) months' prorated housing fee to be released from a Housing & Food Service Contract prior to or during the Fall semester. Students will pay one (1) months' prorated housing fee to be released from a Housing & Food Service Contract at the end of the Fall semester or during the Spring semester.
- Students who qualify for or are granted a cancellation of the Housing & Food Service Contract will receive a prorated refund of housing charges and/or meal plan charges credited to their student account balance.
- Refunds are given only during the academic year in which the original charges were incurred.
- Housing refunds are calculated on a daily basis as of the date on which you (1) officially withdraw from the University, or (2) properly check out of the Housing Assignment, whichever is latest.
- Refunds for meal plans will be calculated from the beginning of the week (Monday-Sunday) following the date on which the meal plan is cancelled at the Auxiliary Services office, Student Services Building. Flex dollars are not refundable separately. Unused flex dollars may not be turned in for cash.
- All refunds, including Housing Deposits, prorated housing charges and prorated meal charges will be applied to the Student's University account balance. Requests for cash refunds of amounts in excess of the Student's account balance must be directed to the Accounting Office. See the “Housing Reservation Deposit” section for deposit claim deadline dates.
Roommate Cancellation/New Roommate Notification
- If one or more of a student's roommates cancels, the remaining student will not be expected to pay for the empty spaces.
- The remaining student(s) should be prepared to accept a new roommate at any time, at the discretion of the Housing Office. The Housing Office will notify remaining student(s) of new roommates via MyHousing Overview, located by link from my.Biola.edu. Notification may take place the same day the roommate is due to move in.
- Any resident who, by their behavior or attitude, or by moving personal belongings into a vacant space, makes it impossible or undesirable for a newly assigned roommate to stay in the vacancy will be considered to have “bought out” the vacancy and will be billed retroactively to the date the space became vacant. Disciplinary action may also result.
- After the first three weeks of classes in each semester, single occupants of a double occupancy room may be provided the opportunity to remain as the sole occupant if there is no waiting list for that hall, floor or building and they agree to pay the additional 30% charge to “buy out” the vacant space. All furnishings must remain in the room even though a vacancy has been “bought out”.
- After the first three weeks of classes in each semester, residents of apartments with a vacancy may be provided the opportunity to keep that space vacant if 1) there is no waiting list for that apartment building and 2) all remaining residents agree to pay the additional 30% charge to “buy out” the vacant space. The “buy out” charge will be apportioned as agreed among the remaining residents of the unit. All furnishings must remain in the apartment even though a vacancy has been “bought out”.
- Because of higher demand for housing during the fall semester, no vacancies will be offered for “buy out” until all students desiring housing have been placed and “Room Change” has ended, whichever occurs latest.
- Students with vacancies in their room or apartment who have not “bought out” the vacant space should be prepared to accept a new roommate at any time, at the discretion of the Housing Office. The Housing Office will notify residents of a new roommate assignment via Biola's internal e-mail. Notification may take place the same day the new roommate is due to move in.
- All vacancies are considered equally available for placement of new residents or breakdown of temporary triples. There will be no “last priority” assigned to “protect” any vacant space.
- Any resident who, by their behavior or attitude or by moving personal belongings into a vacant space, makes it impossible or undesirable for a newly assigned roommate to stay in the vacancy will be considered to have “bought out” the vacancy and billed retroactively to the date the space became vacant. Disciplinary action may also result.
- All residents must check in with designated Housing staff during the Fall semester check-in period and when they return for either Interterm or Spring semester. Failure to check in will result in a $100.00 fine. See the IMPORTANT DATES section of this document for the check-in dates and times for each term, and for Room Claim Deadline dates.
- No residents are to check in prior to Opening Day except by permission of the Housing Office.
- Students who have not checked in to their Housing Assignment by 4:30 p.m. on the Housing Claim Deadline must first check with the Housing Manager in the Housing Office, Student Services Building to determine if their assignment has been changed (562-944-0351, extension 5838). Students who know they will not be able to claim your Housing Assignment by the Claim Deadline, you must notify the Housing Office before the Room Claim Deadline to have their space saved (undergrad [dot] housing [at] biola [dot] edu or 562-944-0351, extension 5838).
- Students with Housing & Food Service Contracts in effect who do not claim their Housing Assignment by the Housing Claim Deadline will forfeit their Housing Deposit and pay one month's prorated “No Show” housing charge. Students who know they will not be coming to or returning to Biola, notify the Housing Office in writing or via e-mail prior to the relevant Housing Claim Deadline date (first day of classes). Students must not rely on any office, department or personnel to inform the Housing Office for them.
- Residents who do not complete enrollment by the final date of Late Enrollment either semester (see Important Dates) will be required to move out of their room/apartment and remove all their belongings from campus within 24 hours of the final date of Late Enrollment. Such unregistered students may not use “guest nights” to prolong their stay on campus (see Visitors).
- Room changes are not permitted except during publicized Open Room Change periods. Students who contract for University Housing are assigned to one specific room/apartment for the entire academic year unless they elect to participate in Open Room Change.
- Open Room Change periods are dependent upon occupancy needs, and are offered at the discretion of the Housing Office. Two Open Room Change periods are normally planned: one in late September for the Fall semester, and one in late February for the Spring semester. Students will be notified of Open Room Change dates and policies ahead of time via Biola e-mail and on the Housing website.
- Residence Life, Housing and/or Student Care staff members have the right to postpone or prevent any Student's participation in Open Room Change.
- Any requests for a “special exception” room change must be approved by the relevant Resident Director or Resident Coordinator, and by the Housing Manager. Approval is not guaranteed. The needs of each resident and the particulars of each situation will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If the room change request is related to medical or psychological issues the student may be required to submit documentation to The Learning Center.
- Students who make an unauthorized change at any time of the year, or invite who someone to move into their room without approval in writing from the Housing Manager will be charged a minimum of $100.00 and will be required to return to your original Housing Assignment.
We believe in protecting communities by limiting the number of hours students of the opposite sex can be present on a floor or in an apartment. We desire to see our students value, develop, and maintain healthy friendships with the same sex as well as learn to practically develop and protect healthy relationships, pursue sexual purity, and honor Christ and themselves by establishing appropriate boundaries.

- Open House will begin no earlier than the first day of classes each semester.
- Except for Thompson Hall and the apartments, there will be NO OPEN HOUSE during Interterm, Thanksgiving Break, Spring Break and finals week of both semesters.
Standards of Conduct
- Rooms/apartments are off limits to students of the opposite sex except during Open House hours.
- All doors will remain WIDE OPEN when visitors are present.
- Any behavior that is considered compromising, sexually inappropriate, or causes others in the community to be uncomfortable is prohibited.
- Open House is a privilege. Therefore, any violation of the designated Open House hours or standards will be subject to disciplinary action which could include a fine and/or loss of visitation privileges.
- All residents who are present at the time of the violation will be held responsible for the violation, regardless of whose guest was involved.
- Visitors of the opposite sex are welcome in the respective residence hall lobbies during posted hours. Please note that the Alpha lobby closes daily to male visitors and the Emerson Hall lobby closes daily to female visitors from 1:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
- Non-Biola visitors in the residence halls and apartments must be accompanied by a resident.
- Unaccompanied juveniles are not allowed to enter the residence halls or apartments, or to use the vending machines.
- Residents should be sure to check with their roommate(s) before inviting anyone to stay in their room or apartment.
- Overnight guests must be of the same gender as room/apartment occupants and are limited to three (3) total nights in University housing per semester (exceptions to be discussed with the Residence Life staff) and must have the consent of all roommates. This does not apply to students who have not completed Registration by final date of Late Registration, or who have been required to move out of University housing or to their belongings. Such students are expected to leave all University housing by the deadline given and may not use “guest nights” to prolong their stay in housing.
- Residents must register their guests with the Residence Life staff by completing the Guest Registration Form on myBiola.
- Residents are responsible for the behavior of all their guests.
- The University reserves the right to require guests to leave if they are in violation of University rules and regulations or federal, state or local laws, and/or disturb other residents
Absence from the Residence Halls or Apartments
Given the nature of emergency situations, anyone expecting to be absent from the residence halls or apartments for more than 24 hours is encouraged to notify their roommate and the Residence Life staff. They should specify their location, a telephone number where they can be reached in case of an emergency, and when they plan to return.
- Residents who become ill may designate someone to pick up meals for them. The person designated to pick up meals must bring the ill Resident's Biola student ID card to the Café Office.
- In case of serious illness or injury please notify the Residence Life staff.
- There are two Check-Out periods, at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Fall Check-Out
- Apartment residents who sign up for Christmas Housing will not be required to complete Fall Check-Out.
- All other residents must complete check-out with the Housing or Residence Life staff member on duty. Residents are expected to turn in their room/apartment key and vacate the room/apartment during Christmas Break and Interterm if they have not been approved for residence during those periods according to the Check-Out schedule below.
- Students who do not properly complete Check-Out will be fined by Residence Life.
- Students who lose or do not turn in their room/apartment key at Check-Out will be fined $50 by Housing for incomplete check-out, and charged $55 for the door to be re-keyed. Students whose keys have been lost during the semester can avoid the $50 Check-Out fine by notifying the Housing Office in writing by December 10 that their key has been lost.
- Students who cancel housing for the Spring semester are expected to schedule a Move-Out/Check-Out date with the Housing Office during Finals Week. Such Students who do not complete the Move-Out/Check-Out process during Finals Week will be charged any applicable Check-Out and re-key charges, as well as an additional $50 Incomplete Check-Out fine.
- At the end of the Fall semester:
- All non-graduating residents must complete check out by 10:00 p.m. on the Friday of Commencement.
- All graduating residents must complete check-out by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday the day after Commencement.
- Residents involved in behavior which violates the Student Handbook or Housing & Food Service Handbook, or which is deemed by the Residence Life staff to be disruptive may be asked to leave immediately.
- Spring Check-Out
- At the end of the Academic year, Students who have not contracted for housing during the summer months must check out of their Housing Assignments on the day and times specified below.
- Residents are considered to have checked out when all personal goods and belongings have been removed from the residence hall or apartment building and they have completed the Check-Out Checklist below provided by their Residence Life staff.
- Students who are granted a cancellation of the Housing & Food Service Contract must properly check out of their Housing Assignment within 24 hours from the time the cancellation is granted.
- Students who fail to comply with check-out procedures will continue to be bound you to all terms of the Contract and may also incur fines.
- A Biola University staff signature on a Check-Out form does not release the Student from liability for damages or cleaning costs for which the Student is responsible.
- Facilities Management and/or Auxiliary Services will perform damage inspections near the end of the Fall semester and after Year-End Closing Day. All damages found at these times which were not recorded in the check-in portion of the Room Condition Form will be billed to the resident(s) of the room, apartment, hall, floor or building.
- Students may not check out for anyone other than yourself themselves.
- At the end of Spring semester:
- All residents not moving to Summer Housing must complete check out by 2:00 p.m. the Saturday of Commencement. Exceptions may be granted by the appropriate R. D. or R. C.
- Regardless of the deadlines above, residents of the building designated for Summer Housing may be asked to move earlier to accommodate incoming summer residents.
- Students moving to Summer Housing will remain in their Spring rooms/apartments through Friday night the day of Commencement. Summer Housing check-in will take place at the Summer Housing residence Hall beginning 10:00 a.m. Saturday the day after Commencement. All year-end check-out procedures from Spring room/apartment assignments and all check-in procedures for Summer Housing must be completed by 2:00 p.m. Saturday the day after Commencement
- Residents who fail either to complete check out by the specified deadlines or to make alternative arrangements with the Residence Life staff, will be charged as follows:
- Residents who fail to complete all the check-out procedures described above or fail to complete any procedures stipulated by the Housing Office will be charged a minimum of $50.00. Fines may be increased at the discretion of the Housing Office based on the degree of failure to comply with check-out procedures.
- Residents who fail to check out altogether will be charged $100.00. Additional costs for re-keying and/or cleaning your room may also be charged to your student account.
- Residents who leave personal furniture (couches, chairs, etc.) anywhere in a residence hall or apartment building at the end of Spring semester or when moving out due to cancellation will be charged $100.00 per piece for removal and disposal of abandoned furniture.
Cancellation of Meal Plans
- If Residents who check out prior to the end of the academic year you must cancel your Meal Plans separately in order to receive a refund. Meal Plans must be cancelled in person in the Auxiliary Services Office, Student Services Building, or e-mail Carolyn White (firstname.lastname@example.org) Students must not rely on any office, department or personnel to inform Auxiliary Services for them.
