FAQs

  1. I have extra credit on my account. How do I get the money?

You can request a refund of credit from your account by filling out a request form at the front desk of Accounting, or by calling (562) 903-4760.

Excess credit from loans or other Title IV Financial Aid is available as soon as it is posted to the account. A credit from a payment by check is available after 10 banking days.

The request must be made by the student and is made payable to the student. A refund made payable to immediate family members can be processed with a written request from the student.

  2. How are finance charges calculated?

A finance charge of 1.5% per month of the first $1,000 of unpaid balance and 1% per month of unpaid balance over $1,000 is added at each billing to carry the account.

  3. I have a payment agreement to make monthly payments. Why was I charged a finance charge?

The payment agreement is not an agreement to waive the finance charges, only an adjustment of the payment structure. Finance charges are still assessed on the outstanding balance.

  4. You know I am getting loans that will pay my balance. Why am I being penalized with finance charges because the bank hasn't sent my money yet?

Finance charges are based on the unpaid balance as of the 15th of the month. It is the student's responsibility to care for the outstanding balance.

  5. My payment was postmarked the 15th, why don't you count that?

Payments must be received in the Accounting Department by the close of the day on the 15th to be credited for that month's billing cycle. We cannot use postmarks or make allowances for payments sent by in-house mail. We do take credit card payments by phone.

(If the 15th is a weekend or a holiday, payment is due on the first working day of the following week.)

  6. When using financial aid, does my aid have to be on my account before I can register and start attending classes?

No. However, if you wish to use your financial aid to reduce the amount of your down payment, the aid must be confirmed by the Financial Aid Department.

  7. When can I use my financial aid to buy my books and what is the procedure for buying books with financial aid?

Any confirmed financial aid in excess of charges for tuition may be used to buy your books. If you have excess financial aid over your charges you may stop by the Accounting Department and pick up a book slip to be used in place of cash at the Bookstore. If you are BOLD student you may call 1-800-MYBIOLA (a line reserved for BOLD students) and order your books by phone, requesting that the books be charged to your account.
