Midnight Madness

Over 2,000 joined Biola in kicking off fall sports at Midnight Madness.

Over 2,000 current students, prospective students and their parents filled Chase Gymnasium for Biola’s annual Midnight Madness pep rally on Sunday, November 8, 2009. The event kicked off the basketball season with displays of talent from the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams showing off their skills with a number of drills and a “battle of the sexes” 3-point competition. All attendees were given Biola red pom poms and were awarded Biola Basketball T-Shirts when the Biola Women’s Team beat the clock, scoring 60 points in 8 minutes. The event also featured outstanding performances by student dance troupe XOPOC, mens vocal ensemble The King’s Men, and the Biola Cheerleaders. Midnight Madness also served as the formal introduction of Biola’s new Eagle Mascot, who emerged from a giant egg and joined his teammates on the Cheer Squad. At the close of the evening, students had a chance to be featured in the first historical group photo with the new mascot in the center of the basketball court.

The highlight of the evening was a surprise collective choreographed perfomance including the Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams, the Biola cheerleaders, XOPOC and student leaders from Residence Life and AS descending from the bleachers. The cheerleaders then taught the audience the “Biola Spirit Cheer” which students will perform at all home games. Midnight Madness was the perfect evening to bolster school spirit for Biola’s basketball season, and to give prospective students and families a window into the thriving community life at Biola.
